Abstract

The paper cited in the title is criticised. It is claimed that the authors of this paper are not acquainted with some of the fundamental work of R V Khokhlov and his successors in the field of nonlinear optics and harmonic generation. Comment on N B Baranova et al 1995 Quantum Electron. 25 638 .

Adiabatic energy transfer from a pump wave to its second harmonic

N. B. Baranova, M A Bolshtyanskiĭ, Boris Ya Zel'dovich

A numerical experiment is used to confirm the feasibility of adiabatic energy transfer from a pump (fundamental-frequency) wave to its second harmonic. The reverse transition is also demonstrated.

Formation of quantum fields in nonlinear resonators

А. В. Белинский

Some incorrect statements and conclusions in previous papers by the author are identified. The cause of the error is determined and the scope of valid results in these papers is given. An analysis is made of the conditions of validity of these results and new examples of their use are suggested.

The Zel’dovich effect in harmonically trapped, ultracold quantum gases

Aaron Farrell, Zachary MacDonald, Brandon P. van Zyl

We investigate the Zel'dovich effect in the context of ultracold, harmonically trapped quantum gases. We suggest that currently available experimental techniques in cold-atom research offer an exciting opportunity for a direct observation of the Zel'dovich effect without the difficulties imposed by conventional condensed matter and nuclear physics studies. We also demonstrate an interesting scaling symmetry in the level rearrangements which has heretofore gone unnoticed.
