Generalized path-integral solution and coherent states of the harmonic oscillator in D -dimensions

Ma Yu-Quan, Jin Zhang, Chen Yong-Kang +1 more

We construct a general form of propagator in arbitrary dimensions and give an exact wavefunction of a time-dependent forced harmonic oscillator in D ( D ⩾ 1) dimensions. The coherent states, defined as the eigenstates of annihilation operator, of the D -dimensional harmonic oscillator are derived. These coherent states correspond to the minimum uncertainty states and the relation between them is investigated.

Exact coherent state transition elements for the squeezed harmonic oscillator

Richard B. Sohn, Mark S. Swanson

The squeezed harmonic oscillator Hamiltonian H = ωa†a + αa2 + α*a†2 is analysed, where a† and a are harmonic oscillator creation and annihilation operators, ω is real, and α is a time independent constant. For the case that ω2 − 4|α|2 > 0 it is known that the Hamiltonian possesses real and positive eigenvalues. The exact eigenstates are constructed by using a Bogoliubov transformation to express them in terms of the algebra and states of the harmonic oscillator. Known properties of these states are reviewed and new results are derived. Modified coherent states are constructed from the exact eigenstates and shown to yield a unit projection operator for the original harmonic oscillator Hilbert space via generalized Gaussian integrals. Transition elements between harmonic oscillator coherent states are then evaluated exactly by using the properties of the modified coherent state projection operator.

Generalized coherent states

T. G. Philbin

In the coherent state of the harmonic oscillator, the probability density is that of the ground state subjected to an oscillation along a classical trajectory. Senitzky and others pointed out that there are states of the harmonic oscillator corresponding to an identical oscillatory displacement of the probability density of any energy eigenstate. These generalizations of the coherent state are rarely discussed, yet they furnish an interesting set of quantum states of light that combine features of number states and coherent states. Here, we give an elementary account of the quantum optics of generalized coherent states.
