Investigation on morphology-dependent resonances in Er~(3+) doped phosphate glass microsphere with light quantum mechanics

Liang Wei

The development of microspherical cavity theory is introduced, and the microspherical cavity is analyzed with light quantum mechanics. The 1533 nm fluorescence spectrum of the Er3+ doped phosphate glass microsphere(about 15 μm in diameter) was measured under laser excitation of 488 nm.The phenomenon of the morphology-dependent resonances of the fluorescence spectrum in the glass microsphere and its formation mechanism were observed and analyzed. The fluorescence spectra of the Er3+doped phosphate glass microsphere were compared with those of corresponding bulk glass. The single-mode oscillation amplitude generated by the Er3+ doped phosphate glass microsphere was obtained in the experiment.

Optical bistability of stimulated-emission lines in Sm^3+-doped glass microspheres

Tomokatsu Hayakawa, Hiroyuki Ooishi, Masayuki Nogami

A third-order optical nonlinear effect in a spherical glass resonator doped with Sm(3+) ions has been observed on stimulated emission lines of the (4)G(5/2)-(6)H(7/2) transition, in which the excitation beam of an Ar(+) laser in a 488-nm single line is coupled with the glass resonator through a prism. A spherical form is produced during a free fall of fractional glasses in a longitudinal electric furnace configured vertically. The prism-coupled glass microsphere exhibits sufficient performance to confine photon energy as a resonance of light inside the sphere and offers the prospect of new applications to functional photonic circuits.

Observation of cavity quantum-electrodynamic effects in a Nd:glass microsphere

Yufan Wang, B. L. Lu, Yisen Li +1 more

In a Nd:glass microspherical cavity the enhancement and inhibition of spontaneous-emission processes that are due to cavity QED effects have been observed. The rates of the enhanced spontaneous emission are location dependent and reach a maximum value of more than 10(3) times the free-space value. The large enhancement strongly modifies the decay processes of Nd ions in glass, and the radiative properties of Nd:glass have been changed. As a result a new spectrum including new lasing wavelengths in the Nd:glass sphere has been observed.
