Abstract

Light propagation in the medium is light-matter interaction process. For such a dynamic process, the process can be viewed as consisting of two sub-components: radiative processes and media response process medium light. This paper describes a two-dimensional nonlinear optical microcavities coupling of changing circumstances, to study the two-dimensional photon - photon mixed gas condensation, quantum phase transition, the post also pointed out that the mixed gas of quantum phase transitions and non-traditional linear optics and frequency generation relationship.

Bose—Einstein Condensation of Photons and Photon Pairs

Jian‐Jun Zhang, Jianhui Yuan, Junpei Zhang +1 more

We investigate the Bose-Einstein condensation of photons and photon pairs in a two-dimension optical microcavity. We find that in the paraxial approximation, the mixed gas of photons and photon pairs is formally equivalent to a two dimension system of massive bosons with non-vanishing chemical potential, which implies the existence of two possible condensate phase. We also discuss the quantum phase transition of the system and obtain the critical point analytically. Moreover, we find that the quantum phase transition of the system can be interpreted as second harmonic generation.

Propagation of a quantum fluid of light in a cavityless nonlinear optical medium: General theory and response to quantum quenches

Pierre-Élie Larré, Iacopo Carusotto

Making use of a generalized quantum theory of paraxial light propagation where the radiation-axis and the temporal coordinates play exchanged roles, we discuss the potential of bulk nonlinear optical media in cavityless configurations for quantum statistical mechanics studies of the conservative many-body dynamics of a gas of interacting photons. To illustrate the general features of this point of view, we investigate the response of the fluid of light to the quantum quenches in the photon-photon interaction constant experienced at the front and the back faces of a finite slab of weakly nonlinear material. Extending the standard Bogoliubov theory of dilute Bose-Einstein condensates, peculiar features are predicted for the statistical properties of the light emerging from the nonlinear medium.

Bose–Einstein condensation of dressed photons in a nonlinear optical microcavity

Ze Cheng

Bose–Einstein condensation (BEC) of dressed photons in a Kerr nonlinear optical microcavity is investigated. Our experimental scheme is based on an optical microcavity filled with a Kerr nonlinear nonpolar crystal. The pump photons interact with the Raman phonons in the crystal and hence are converted into new quasiparticles, which we refer to as dressed photons. A dressed photon is a photon dressed with a cloud of virtual transverse-optical phonons. The first main finding is that two-dimensional (2D) dressed photons have an increased inert mass. The second main finding is that the lower cutoff frequency of a nonlinear optical microcavity becomes larger. The third main finding is that the incident laser intensity is a moderate laser intensity ([Formula: see text]10[Formula: see text] W/cm2). The fourth main finding is that the critical optical power of a nonlinear optical microcavity is increased. The fifth main finding is that the radiation emitted by 2D dressed photons has an ultrahigh intensity.

Quantum Statistics of Nonlinear Optics

Y. R. Shen

Nonlinear interaction of light with matter is described from the quantum-statistical point of view. The cases of two-photon absorption, Raman transition, sum-frequency generation, parametric amplification, and incoherent scattering are discussed. It is shown that the nonlinear optical effects depend strongly on the statistical properties of the light fields. The rate of nonlinear absorption, generation, and amplification is higher for chaotic than for coherent, and also higher for multimode than for single-mode pump fields. Measurements of the statistics of the output fields may yield information about the statistics of the input fields and the properties of the medium.

Ultrashort Pulses in Multicomponent Media and Photonic Bandgap Structures

Anatoli V. Andreev

Abstract : The mathematical algorithms and programs for the study of the resonant light-matter interactions in the multi-component and multilevel media and photonic bandgap structures have been developed. The optimal component distribution in the two-component media have been found to get a pulse of a superradiative emission of the highest intensity. The mathematical algorithms and programs for the study of the femtosecond pulse propagation in an extended medium of the two-level atoms have developed. The regime of the inversionless superradiance in the two-component superradiative medium has been investigated. The theory of the superradiance by an ensemble of the two-level atoms embedded in the dielectric host was developed. It was shown that the near dipole-dipole interaction of dense collection of two-level atoms is enhanced by the presence of the host material, decreasing the pulse temporal width and increasing the peak pulse intensity of superradiative emission. The theory of nonlinear light-matter interaction in multidimensional resonant photonic crystals under Bragg diffraction condition has been developed. It was obtained the analytical and numerical solutions describing the novel kinds of nonlinear solitary waves: the Laue soliton, O-field, propagating and standing gap solitary waves. It has been described the spatio-temporal nonlinear dynamics of coherent field in periodic resonant structures with arbitrary modulation of atomic density and gain gratings.
