Abstract

An explicit construction of all the possible sets of n commuting monomials for an n-qudit system as well as an algorithm for the determination of their factorization are given here. The results are applied for the generation of locally non-isomorphic mutually unbiased complete sets and their classification according to the separability properties. An explicit example of three-qudits is analyzed.

Generation of bases with definite factorization for ann-qubit system and mutually unbiased sets construction

Andrés García, José Luis Romero, A. B. Klimov

We propose a systematic procedure to construct all the possible bases with a definite factorization structure (eigenstates of n commuting monomials constructed as products of Pauli operators) for an n -qubit system, as well as the possibility of collecting them into mutually unbiased sets. We also discuss an algorithm for the determination of basis separability and propose a criteria for complementarity between such bases. The results are applied to generate non-isomorphic complete sets of mutually unbiased bases.

Mutually unbiased product bases for multiple qudits

Daniel McNulty, Bogdan Jin-Wha Pammer, Stefan Weigert

We investigate the interplay between mutual unbiasedness and product bases for multiple qudits of possibly different dimensions. A product state of such a system is shown to be mutually unbiased to a product basis only if each of its factors is mutually unbiased to all the states which occur in the corresponding factors of the product basis. This result implies both a tight limit on the number of mutually unbiased product bases which the system can support and a complete classification of mutually unbiased product bases for multiple qubits or qutrits. In addition, only maximally entangled states can be mutually unbiased to a maximal set of mutually unbiased product bases.

A new method of construction of all sets of mutually unbiased bases for two-qubit systems

Iulia Ghiu

Mutually unbiased bases are an important tool in many applications of quantum information theory. We present a new algorithm for finding the mutually unbiased bases for two-qubit systems. We derive a system of four equations in the Galois field GF(4) and show that the solutions of this system are sufficient for obtaining the most general set of mutually unbiased bases. Further, our algorithm is applied to an example and we show that there are three possible solutions of the system of four equations, each solution leading to a different set of mutually unbiased bases.

Generation of all sets of mutually unbiased bases for three-qubit systems

Iulia Ghiu

We propose a new method of finding the mutually unbiased bases for three qubits. The key element is the construction of the table of striation-generating curves in the discrete phase space. We derive a system of equations in the Galois field GF(8) and show that the solutions of these equations are sufficient for the construction of the general sets of complete mutually unbiased bases. A few examples are presented in order to show how our algorithm works in the following cases: striation table with three and two axes, and one and no axis in the discrete phase space.

Structure of the sets of mutually unbiased bases for N qubits

José Luis Romero, Gunnar G. Bjork, A. B. Klimov +1 more

For a system of $N$ qubits, living in a Hilbert space of dimension $d={2}^{N}$, it is known that there exists $d+1$ mutually unbiased bases. Different construction algorithms exist, and it is remarkable that different methods lead to sets of bases with different properties as far as separability is concerned. Here we derive four sets of nine bases for three qubits, and show how they are unitarily related. We also briefly discuss the four-qubit case, give the entanglement structure of 16 sets of bases, and show some of them and their interrelations, as examples. The extension of the method to the general case of $N$ qubits is outlined.

Mutually unbiased bases and trinary operator sets for N qutrits

Jay Lawrence

A compete orthonormal basis of $N$-qutrit unitary operators drawn from the Pauli group consists of the identity and ${9}^{N}\ensuremath{-}1$ traceless operators. The traceless ones partition into ${3}^{N}+1$ maximally commuting subsets (MCS's) of ${3}^{N}\ensuremath{-}1$ operators each, whose joint eigenbases are mutually unbiased. We prove that Pauli factor groups of order ${3}^{N}$ are isomorphic to all MCS's and show how this result applies in specific cases. For two qutrits, the 80 traceless operators partition into 10 MCS's. We prove that 4 of the corresponding basis sets must be separable, while 6 must be totally entangled (and Bell-like). For three qutrits, 728 operators partition into 28 MCS's with less rigid structure, allowing for the coexistence of separable, partially entangled, and totally entangled (GHZ-like) bases. However a minimum of $16\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{GHZ}$-like bases must occur. Every basis state is described by an $N$-digit trinary number consisting of the eigenvalues of $N$ observables constructed from the corresponding MCS.
