Abstract

We study the intelligent states associated with the Holstein-Primakoff realization of (2). The explicit expressions of these states in terms of the Gauss hypergeometric functions are derived and their statistical properties are investigated in detail. It is shown that in some special or asymptotic cases these states turn out to be such important states as the binomial states, number states, Glauber coherent states, squeezed coherent states, etc in quantum optics.

Intelligent photon states associated with the Holstein - Primakoff realization of theSU(1,1) Lie algebra

Christopher C. Gerry, R. Grobe

We investigate the single-mode intelligent states associated with the Holstein - Primakoff realization of the SU(1,1) Lie algebra. These states can be shown to contract, under certain conditions, to the ordinary coherent or squeezed states in the limit of large Bargman index. We show that these states can have oscillatory photocount distributions, sub-Poissonian statistics and squeezing.

Hypergeometric states and their nonclassical properties

Hong‐Chen Fu, Ryu Sasaki B

“Hypergeometric states,” which are a one-parameter generalization of binomial states of the single-mode quantized radiation field, are introduced and their nonclassical properties are investigated. Their limits to the binomial states and to the coherent and number states are studied. The ladder operator formulation of the hypergeometric states is found and the algebra involved turns out to be a one-parameter deformation of su(2) algebra. These states exhibit highly nonclassical properties, like sub-Poissonian character, antibunching, and squeezing effects. The quasiprobability distributions in phase space, namely the Q and the Wigner functions are studied in detail. These remarkable properties seem to suggest that the hypergeometric states deserve further attention from theoretical and applicational sides of quantum optics.

Negative Binomial States of Quantized Radiation Fields

Hong‐Chen Fu, Ryu Sasaki B

We introduce the negative binomial states with negative binomial distribution as their photon number distribution. They reduce to the ordinary coherent states and Susskind-Glogower phase states in different limits. The ladder and displacement operator formalisms are found and they are essentially the Perelomov's su(1,1) coherent states via its Holstein-Primakoff realisation. These states exhibit strong squeezing effect and they obey the super-Poissonian statistics. A method to generate these states is proposed.

Photon states associated with the Holstein-Primakoff realization of the SU(1,1) Lie algebra

Constantin Brif

Statistical and phase properties and number-phase uncertainty relations are systematically investigated for photon states associated with the Holstein-Primakoff realization of the SU(1,1) Lie algebra. Perelomov's SU(1,1) coherent states and the eigenstates of the SU(1,1) lowering generator (the Barut-Girardello states) are discussed. A recently developed formalism, based on the antinormal ordering of exponential phase operators, is used for studying phase properties and number-phase uncertainty relations. This study shows essential differences between properties of the Barut-Girardello states and the SU(1,1) coherent states. The philophase states, defined as states with simple phase-state representations, relate the quantum description of the optical phase to the properties of the SU(1,1) Lie group. A modified Holstein-Primakoff realization is derived, and eigenstates of the corresponding lowering generator are discussed. These stares are shown to contract, in a proper limit, to the familiar Glauber coherent states.

On SU(1,1) intelligent coherent states

G. M. Abd Al-Kader, A.‐S. F. Obada

Generalized coherent states associated with SU(1,1) Lie algebra are reviewed. A state is called intelligent if it satisfies the strict equality in the Heisenberg uncertainty relation. The eigenvalue problem satisfied by intelligent states (IS) is solved. The IS associated with SU(1,1) Lie algebra are investigated. We have constructed some realizations for our results of IS, and some applications are discussed. Some nonclassical properties such as Glauber second-order correlation function, photon number distribution and squeezing are investigated.

Binomial States of the Quantized Radiation Field

David Stoler, Bahaa E. A. Saleh, Malvin Carl Teich

We introduce the binomial state of the quantized radiation field, which is a state that yields a binomial counting probability distribution. It reduces to the coherent state and to the number state in different limits. The binomal state is quantum mechanical in nature, and we show that it produces light that is antibunched, sub-poissonian, and squeezed for certain parameter ranges. A mixed binomial state is also defined. Particular attention is devoted to the mixed Bernoulli state which is an important special case. The properties of this mixed state indicate that squeezing might be present in individual atomic emissions.
