Tripartite entanglement of oscillating and decohering neutrinos

Subhashish Banerjee, Heinrich Päs, Erika Rani

We study entanglement measures for oscillating neutrinos in the wave-packet formalism and confirm that an oscillating neutrino exhibits genuine tripartite entanglement and can be characterized as a member of the W class of states. We also show that this feature survives in the decoherence limit, and discuss the effect of CP phases on the entanglement. These findings provide new insights into the quantum nature of neutrino oscillations and their potential role in quantum information science, especially for neutrinos propagating large distances such as the astrophysical neutrinos observed at neutrino telescopes.

Neutrino oscillations as a "which-path" experiment

Harry J. Lipkin

The role of simple quantum mechanics in understanding neutrino oscillation experiments is pointed out by comparison with two-slit and Bragg scattering experiments. The importance of considering the beam and the detector as a correlated quantum system is emphasized. Quantum mechanics alone shows that the difference observed in the same neutrino detector at Super-Kamiokande between upward and downward going neutrinos requires the existence of a neutrino mass difference. The localization of the source and detector in space in the laboratory system for long times leads to an uncertainty in the momentum but not of the energy of the neutrino and to coherence between states having different momenta and the same energy and not between states with different energies.

Quantum circuits for simulating neutrino propagation in matter

Sandeep Joshi, Garima Rajpoot, P. Shukla

Abstract Quantum simulation of particle phenomena is a rapidly advancing field of research. With the widespread availability of quantum simulators, a given quantum system can be simulated in numerous ways, offering flexibility in implementation and exploration. Here, we perform quantum simulation of neutrino propagation in matter, a phenomenon that plays a crucial role in neutrino oscillations. We present quantum circuits with novel gate arrangements to simulate neutrino propagation in both constant and varying matter density profiles. The oscillation probabilities are determined by encoding and measuring the qubit states in the neutrino flavor basis, showing excellent agreement with theoretical predictions.
