Intertwining vectors and the connection between critical vertex and SOS models

Abstract

A new algebraic Bethe ansatz construction for the six-vertex model is formulated using intertwining vectors and local gauge transformations. A new set of eigenvectors and their associated eigenvalue equations are derived. This basis is well suited to connect vertex, SOS and RSOS models. Exact relations on a finite lattice between vertex and SOS models are proven with the help of the intertwining vectors.

FACE ALGEBRAS AND EXACT BETHE ANSATZ SOLUTIONS FOR SOS MODELS

Hector J. de Vega

An analog of the Yang-Baxter Algebra (YBA) is defined in face language. The operators tαα′,ββ′(θ) introduced here enjoy all essential properties of the vertex language YBA. Using this face YBA an algebraic Bethe Ansatz (BA) is constructed for SOS models (unrestricted IRF models). The face dual of the six-vertex model and the critical ABF model are worked out explicitly. Eigenvectors and eigenvalues of the transfer matrix are found and the corresponding BA equations derived and compared with the six vertex BAE.

Auxiliary matrices for the six-vertex model atqN 1 and a geometric interpretation of its symmetries

Christian Korff

The construction of auxiliary matrices for the six-vertex model at a root of unity is investigated from a quantum group theoretic point of view. Employing the concept of intertwiners associated with the quantum loop algebra U q ( 2 ) at q N = 1, a three-parameter family of auxiliary matrices is constructed. The elements of this family satisfy a functional relation with the transfer matrix allowing one to solve the eigenvalue problem of the model and to derive the Bethe ansatz equations. This functional relation is obtained from the decomposition of a tensor product of evaluation representations and involves auxiliary matrices with different parameters. Because of this dependence on additional parameters, the auxiliary matrices break in general the finite symmetries of the six-vertex model, such as spin-reversal or spin-conservation. More importantly, they also lift the extra degeneracies of the transfer matrix due to the loop symmetry present at rational coupling values. The extra parameters in the auxiliary matrices are shown to be directly related to the elements in the enlarged centre Z of the algebra U q ( 2 ) at q N = 1. This connection provides a geometric interpretation of the enhanced symmetry of the six-vertex model at rational coupling. The parameters labelling the auxiliary matrices can be interpreted as coordinates on a hypersurface Spec Z ⊂ ℂ 4 which remains invariant under the action of an infinite-dimensional group G of analytic transformations, called the quantum coadjoint action.

An introduction to the algebraic Bethe ansatz

James Plunkett, Omar E. Foda

The algebraic Bethe ansatz is one of the main approaches to solving integrable models in statistical mechanics. This thesis is a detailed introduction to aspects of this technique. In chapter 1, following Takhtajan1, we fully explain all preliminaries that are required by this technique in the context of the 8-vertex model, including the solution of the Yang-Baxter equations in terms of Boltzmann weights that are parameterized by elliptic function. In chapter 2, also following Takhtajan, we restrict our attention to the special case of the 6-vertex model, with Boltzmann weights parameterized by hyperbolic trigonometric functions, formulate the model in detail on a finite lattice with periodic boundary conditions, and show how the algebraic Bethe ansatz can be used to characterize the eigenvectors and eigenvalues, in the homogeneous case (all vertical rapidities are equal, and all horizontal rapidities are also equal). In chapter 3, following Bogoliubov et al2, we consider the 6-vertex model in inhomogeneous case (all rapidities are now independenti variables) but with domain wall boundary conditions. Using the algebraic Bethe ansatz, and Izergin’s result for the partition function, we calculate boundary 1-point functions of the six-vertex model on a finite lattice and represent them in determinant form. YANG-BAXTER ALGEBRAS, INTEGRABLE THEORIES AND BETHE ANSATZ

Hector J. de Vega

The Yang-Baxter algebras (YBA) are introduced in a general framework stressing their power to exactly solve the lattice models associated to them. The algebraic Bethe Ansatz is developed as an eigenvector construction based on the YBA. The six-vertex model solution is given explicitly. The generalization of YB algebras to face language is considered. The algebraic BA for the SOS model of Andrews, Baxter and Forrester is described using these face YB algebras. It is explained how these lattice models yield both solvable massive QFT and conformal models in appropiated scaling (continuous) limits within the lattice light-cone approach. This approach permit to define and solve rigorously massive QFT as an appropiate continuum limit of gapless vertex models. The deep links between the YBA and Lie algebras are analyzed including the quantum groups that underly the trigonometric/hyperbolic YBA. Braid and quantum groups are derived from trigonometric/hyperbolic YBA in the limit of infinite spectral parameter. To conclude, some recent developments in the domain of integrable theories are summarized.

BETHE ANSATZ AND QUANTUM GROUPS

Hector J. de Vega

The formulation and resolution of integrable lattice statistical models in a quantum group covariant way is the subject of this review. The Bethe Ansatz turns to be remarkably useful to implement quantum group symmetries and to provide quantum group representations even when $q$ is a root of unity. We start by solving the six-vertex model with fixed boundary conditions (FBC) that guarantee exact $SU(2)_q$ invariance on the lattice. The algebra of the Yang-Baxter (YB) and $SU(2)_q$ generators turns to close. The infinite spectral parameter limit of the YB generators yields {\bf cleanly} the $SU(2)_q$ generators. The Bethe Ansatz states constructed for FBC are shown to be {\bf highest weights} of $SU(2)_q$. The higher level Bethe Ansatz equations (BAE, describing the physical excitations) are explicitly derived for FBC. We then solve the RSOS($p$) models on the light--cone lattice with fixed boundary conditions by disentangling the type II representations of $SU(2)_q$, at $q=e^{iπ/p}$, from the full SOS spectrum obtained through Algebraic Bethe Ansatz. The RSOS states are those with quantum spin $J

From algebraic to coordinate Bethe ansatz for square ice

Silvère Gangloff

In this text, we provide a detailed exposition of the Algebraic Bethe ansatz for square ice (or six vertex model), which allows the construction of candidate eigenvectors for the transfer matrices of this model. We also prove some formula of V.E. Korepin for these vectors, which leads to an identification, up to a non-zero complex factor, with the vector obtained by coordinate Bethe ansatz.
