Absorption and dispersion management of near-infrared probe light in the carbon nanotube quantum dot nanostructure with spin–orbit coupling

Ghahraman Solookinejad, Masoud Jabbari, Elnaz Ahmadi Sangachin +1 more

We investigated the absorption–dispersion properties of near-infrared probe light in the carbon nanotube quantum dot (CNT-QD) nanostructure with spin–orbit (SO) coupling parameter based on quantum mechanical density matrix formalisms. We found that in the presence of SO parameter, the amplification of probe light can be achieved in the presence and lack of population inversion (lasing with and without inversion). Moreover, we realized that the normal and anomalous dispersion of probe light can occur by redacting the incoherent pumping and transverse magnetic fields.

Control of light speed: From slow light to superluminal light

Qunfeng Chen, Yong-Sheng Zhang, Bao‐Sen Shi +1 more

A scheme for controlling light speed from slower-than-$c$ to faster-than-$c$ in an atomic system is presented in this paper. The scheme is based on far detuning Raman effect. Two far detuning coupling fields with small frequency difference will produce two absorptive peaks for the probe field in a $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$ structure, and an optical pump between the two ground states can change the absorptive peaks into enhanced peaks, which makes the normal dispersion between the two peaks change into anomalous dispersion, so the probe field can change from slow light to superluminal propagation.

Controllable amplification, absorption, and dispersion in double‐cascade‐type four‐level system of multiple quantum wells

Wei Yan, Tao Wang, Xiaoming Li +3 more

Abstract A double‐cascade‐type four‐level system of semiconductor multiple quantum wells (MQWs) was constructed with biexcitons and excitons. The nonlinear optical properties for amplification, absorption, and dispersion of 2‐weak fields in this scheme are investigated. It shows that the amplification, absorption, and dispersion responses of 2‐weak fields can be achieved by appropriately adjusting the relative phase, the probe detuning, and the two control Rabi frequencies. The investigation is much more practical than its atomic counterpart because of its flexible design and the widely adjustable parameters. It may provide a new possibility in technological applications for the light amplifier and optical switch working on quantum coherence effects in MQW solid‐state systems.
