Abstract

We propose the use of a squeezed coherent light probe in weak value amplification of single photon nonlinearity. It improves the success probability more than tenfold without the degradation of the error probability.

Amplifying Single-Photon Nonlinearity Using Weak Measurements

Amir Feizpour, Xingxing Xing, Aephraim M. Steinberg

We show that weak measurement can be used to "amplify" optical nonlinearities at the single-photon level, such that the effect of one properly postselected photon on a classical beam may be as large as that of many unpostselected photons. We find that "weak-value amplification" offers a marked improvement in the signal-to-noise ratio in the presence of technical noise with long correlation times. Unlike previous weak-measurement experiments, our proposed scheme has no classical equivalent.

Optical amplification of single-photon polarization qubit using weak measurement

Ruitong Zhao, Jianjun Guo, Lianglun Cheng

Abstract Single-photon amplification can be used to overcome the photon loss in long-distance quantum communication. However, the trade-off of success probability and amplification gain should be further improved. We propose a single-photon polarization qubit amplification using weak measurement. The polarization qubit can be amplified by the pre- and post-selection of the single-photon meter state weakly coupling with the input state. The success probability does not decrease asymptotically to 0 with increasing amplification gain in the presented proposal, and is higher than that in entanglement-based schemes, without coincidence detection required. Our proposal is feasible in current technology, and helpful for near-future quantum communication.

Realization of entanglement-assisted weak-value amplification in a photonic system

Jiangshan Chen, Bi‐Heng Liu, Mengjun Hu +4 more

Weak-value amplification has been used to enhance the sensitivity of a linear detector response to small interaction parameters. However, the generation of a large weak value gives rise to reduction in postselection probability, which restricts the feasibility of the weak-value amplification technique. Recently, theoretical works have shown that the use of entanglement can increase the efficiency of the weak-value amplification method. Specifically, it is proven that by entangling $n$ particles of a system, the maximum postselection probability scales quadratically with $n$ [Pang, Dressel, and Brun, Phys. Rev. Lett. 113, 030401 (2014)]. In this work, we demonstrate an experimental realization of entanglement-assisted weak-value amplification in a photonic system, which shows that importing quantum entanglement can indeed improve the efficiency of weak-value amplification.

Lossless transformation of coherent light into amplitude-squeezed light

Klaus M. Gheri, Daniel F. Walls

We show that the use of weakly probed three-level atoms in the \ensuremath{\Lambda} configuration as a nonlinear medium inside an optical cavity enables the almost lossless transformation of an incoming strong coherent light beam into an outgoing amplitude-squeezed light beam.
