Abstract

We investigate entanglement of two coupled electron spins in quantum dots (QDs) in the presence of an inhomogeneous magnetic field. The important effects of the inhomogeneous field are discussed for the dynamics of entanglement. Due to the system’s symmetry, the inhomogeneity of the field is shown not to affect the evolution of entanglement for Φ-type Bell state while it plays a key role for Ψ-type Bell state. For the maximal entangled Bell states, the field is positive for the entanglement dynamics. The mean field can increase the entanglement revival for Φ-type Bell state while an inhomogeneous field can promote the entanglement revival for Ψ-type Bell state. For the unentangled initial states, the field is destructive for the entanglement generation induced by the coupling of the two spins.

Entanglement dynamics of two electron-spin qubits in a strongly detuned and dissipative quantum-dot-cavity system

Shao-Hua Xiang, Xiao-Peng Deng, Kehui Song +2 more

We investigate the entanglement dynamics of two electron-spin qubits in the quantum-dot (QD)–microcavity system in the large-detuning limit and subjected to two different noise sources: electron-spin dephasing and relaxation. We show that when one of the two dots is prepared initially in the excited state, the created entanglement exhibits oscillatory behavior at the beginning of evolution and then completely disappears over time. For two QDs that are initially in either the Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen-Bell states or the Werner states, their entanglement evolution exhibits the same behavior in the presence of pure dephasing, but is completely different under the relaxation process. We also show that the interdot interaction induced by a single-mode cavity field does not contribute to the dynamics of entanglement for these Bell states and Werner states.

Dynamics of entanglement of two electron spins interacting with nuclear spin baths in quantum dots

Igor Bragar, Łukasz Cywiński

We study the dynamics of entanglement of two electron spins in two quantum dots, in which each electron is interacting with its nuclear spin environment. Focusing on the case of uncoupled dots, and starting from either Bell or Werner states of two qubits, we calculate the decay of entanglement due to the hyperfine interaction with the nuclei. We mostly focus on the regime of magnetic fields in which the bath-induced electron spin flips play a role, for example, their presence leads to the appearance of entanglement sudden death at finite time for two qubits initialized in a Bell state. For these fields, the intrabath dipolar interactions and spatial inhomogeneity of hyperfine couplings are irrelevant on the time scale of coherence (and entanglement) decay, and most of the presented calculations are performed using the uniform-coupling approximation to the exact hyperfine Hamiltonian. We provide a comprehensive overview of entanglement decay in this regime, considering both free evolution of the qubits, and an echo protocol with simultaneous application of $\ensuremath{\pi}$ pulses to the two spins. All the currently relevant for experiments bath states are considered: the thermal state, narrowed states (characterized by diminished uncertainty of one of the components of the Overhauser field) of two uncorrelated baths, and a correlated narrowed state with a well-defined value of the $z$ component of the Overhauser field interdot gradient. While we mostly use concurrence to quantify the amount of entanglement in a mixed state of the two electron spins, we also show that their entanglement dynamics can be reconstructed from measurements of the currently relevant for experiments entanglement witnesses and the fidelity of quantum teleportation, performed using a partially disentangled state as a resource.

Influences of spin–orbit interaction on quantum speed limit and entanglement of spin qubits in coupled quantum dots

M. Bagheri Harouni

Quantum speed limit and entanglement of a two-spin Heisenberg XYZ system in an inhomogeneous external magnetic field are investigated. The physical system studied is the excess electron spin in two adjacent quantum dots. The influences of magnetic field inhomogeneity as well as spin–orbit coupling are studied. Moreover, the spin interaction with surrounding magnetic environment is investigated as a non-Markovian process. The spin–orbit interaction provides two important features: the formation of entanglement when two qubits are initially in a separated state and the degradation and rebirth of the entanglement.

Dynamical spin-spin coupling of quantum dots

Vahram L. Grigoryan, Jiang Xiao

We carried out a nested Schrieffer-Wolff transformation of an Anderson two-impurity Hamiltonian to study the spin-spin coupling between two dynamical quantum dots under the influence of rotating transverse magnetic field. As a result of the rotating field, we predict a novel Ising type spin-spin coupling mechanism between quantum dots, whose strength is tunable via the magnitude of the rotating field. Due to its dynamical origin, this new coupling mechanism is qualitatively different from the all existing static couplings such as RKKY, while the strength could be comparable to the strength of the RKKY coupling. The dynamical coupling with the intristic RKKY coupling enables to construct a four-level system of maximally entangled Bell states in a controllable manner.

Bipartite entanglement of a two-qubit system with anisotropic couplings under nonuniform magnetic fields

Qin Meng, Tian Dong-Ping

This paper investigates bipartite entanglement of a two-qubit system with anisotropic couplings under an inhomogeneous magnetic field. This work is mainly to investigate the characteristics of a Heisenberg XYZ chain and obtains some meaningful results. By the concept of negativity, it finds that the inhomogeneity of magnetic field may induce entanglement and the critical magnetic field is independent of J z . The inhomogeneous magnetic field can increase the value of critical magnetic field B c . It also finds that the magnetic field not only suppresses the entanglement but also can induce it to revival for some time.

Selection of entanglement state in quantum repeater process

Tao Shi, Li-Hua Lü, You‐Quan Li

The decoherence of entanglement states stored in quantum memory is a major obstacle when implementing a quantum repeater. So far, the electron spins in quantum dots are usually utilized to construct entangled states in quantum repeater. In the quantum repeater process, the distance between quantum dots is large, so the interaction between them can be neglected. Thus the hyperfine interaction between the electron spin and its neighbor nuclear spins in the quantum dot is considered to be the main reason for the decoherence of the system. In early researches, the hyperfine interaction between the electron spin and its neighbor nuclear spins was considered as an effective magnetic field whose magnitude and direction are random and the magnitude follows the Gaussian distribution. In this paper, we simultaneously consider an applied magnetic field and the interaction between the electron spin and its neighbor nuclear spins, and investigate the decoherence of the quantum repeater of two quantum dots. We first solve the time evolution of the system by the numerical method, and the result shows that when the applied magnetic field is increased to a certain value, the four Bell states can be divided into two kinds, each with two Bell states. The system cannot transit from the Bell state in one kind to that in the other kind, but can transit between two Bell states with in the same kind. This effectively improves the fidelity of the initial state and suppresses the decoherence of the system. For a given applied magnetic field with large magnitude, we theoretically study the effect of the fluctuation of nuclear spin on the entangled state, and give an analytical expression for each of the fidelity and the decoherence time of the initial state. We show that the decoherence times of the four Bell states are the same, but the time evolutions of the Bell states belonging to different kinds are different obviously. The fidelity of two Bell states not only decays exponentially but also oscillates rapidly, so such two Bell states are difficult to be manipulated and not suggested in quantum repeater process. The results in this paper are expected to provide theoretical suggestions for selecting the entangled states in quantum repeater.
