Abstract

Based on the classical binary simplex code [Formula: see text] and any fixed-point-free element f of [Formula: see text], Calderbank et al. constructed a binary quantum error-correcting code [Formula: see text]. They proved that [Formula: see text] has a normal subgroup H, which is a semidirect product group of the centralizer Z(f) of f in GLm(2) with [Formula: see text], and the index [Formula: see text] is the number of elements of Ff = {f, 1 - f, 1/f, 1 - 1/f, 1/(1 - f), f/(1 - f)} that are conjugate to f. In this paper, a theorem to describe the relationship between the quotient group [Formula: see text] and the set Ff is presented, and a way to find the elements of Ff that are conjugate to f is proposed. Then we prove that [Formula: see text] is isomorphic to S3 and H is a semidirect product group of [Formula: see text] with [Formula: see text] in the linear case. Finally, we generalize a result due to Calderbank et al.

The $σ$ hulls of matrix-product codes and related entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes

Cao, Meng

Let $\mathrm{SLAut}(\mathbb{F}_{q}^{n})$ denote the group of all semilinear isometries on $\mathbb{F}_{q}^{n}$, where $q=p^{e}$ is a prime power. Matrix-product (MP) codes are a class of long classical codes generated by combining several commensurate classical codes with a defining matrix. We give an explicit formula for calculating the dimension of the $σ$ hull of a MP code. As a result, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for the MP codes to be $σ$ dual-containing and $σ$ self-orthogonal. We prove that $\mathrm{dim}_{\mathbb{F}_{q}}(\mathrm{Hull}_σ(\mathcal{C}))=\mathrm{dim}_{\mathbb{F}_{q}}(\mathrm{Hull}_σ(\mathcal{C}^{\bot_σ}))$. We prove that for any integer $h$ with $\mathrm{max}\{0,k_{1}-k_{2}\}\leq h\leq \mathrm{dim}_{\mathbb{F}_{q}}(\mathcal{C}_{1}\cap\mathcal{C}_{2}^{\bot_σ})$, there exists a linear code $\mathcal{C}_{2,h}$ monomially equivalent to $\mathcal{C}_{2}$ such that $\mathrm{dim}_{\mathbb{F}_{q}}(\mathcal{C}_{1}\cap\mathcal{C}_{2,h}^{\bot_σ})=h$, where $\mathcal{C}_{i}$ is an $[n,k_{i}]_{q}$ linear code for $i=1,2$. We show that given an $[n,k,d]_{q}$ linear code $\mathcal{C}$, there exists a monomially equivalent $[n,k,d]_{q}$ linear code $\mathcal{C}_{h}$, whose $σ$ dual code has minimum distance $d'$, such that there exist an $[[n,k-h,d;n-k-h]]_{q}$ EAQECC and an $[[n,n-k-h,d';k-h]]_{q}$ EAQECC for every integer $h$ with $0\leq h\leq \mathrm{dim}_{\mathbb{F}_{q}}(\mathrm{Hull}_σ(\mathcal{C}))$. Based on this result, we present a general construction method for deriving EAQECCs with flexible parameters from MP codes related to $σ$ hulls.

Constructing Quantum Error-Correcting Codes for pm-State System from Classical Error-Correcting Codes

Ryutaroh Matsumoto, Tomohiko Uyematsu

Quantum error-correcting codes have attracted much attention. Among many research articles, the most general and systematic construction is the so called stabilizer code construction [6] or additive code construction [2], which constructs a quantum error-correcting code as an eigenspace of an Abelian subgroup S of the error group. Thereafter Calderbank et al. [3] proposed a construction of S from an additive code over the finite field F4 with 4 elements. These constructions work for tensor products of 2-state quantum systems. However Knill [8], [9] and Rains [13] observed that the construction [2], [6] can be generalized to n-state systems by an appropriate choice of the error basis. Rains [13] also generalized the construction [3] using additive codes over F4 to p-state quantum systems, but his generalization does not relate the problem of quantum code construction to classical error-correcting codes. We propose a construction of quantum error-correcting codes for p-state systems from classical error-correcting codes which is a generalization of [3]. Throughout this paper, p denotes a prime number andm a positive integer. This paper is organized as follows. In Sect. 2, we review the construction of quantum codes for nonbinary systems. In Sect. 3, we propose a construction of quantum codes for p-state systems from classical codes over Fp2 . In Sect. 4, we propose a construction of quantum codes for p-state systems from classical linear codes over Fp2m . In Sect. 5, we discuss a

Let R be the ring 𝔽2m + u𝔽2m, where u2 = 0. We introduce a Gray map from R to 𝔽22m and study (1 + u)-constacyclic codes over R. It is proved that the image of a (1 + u)-constacyclic code length n over R under the Gray map is a distance-invariant binary quasicyclic code of index m and length 2mn. We also prove that every code of length 2mn which is the Gray image of cyclic codes over R of length n is permutation equivalent to a binary quasi-cyclic code of index m. Furthermore, a family of quantum error-correcting codes obtained from the Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) construction applied to (1 + u)-constacyclic codes over R.

Constructive Conjugate Codes for Quantum Error Correction and Cryptography

Mitsuru Hamada

A conjugate code pair is defined as a pair of linear codes either of which contains the dual of the other. A conjugate code pair represents the essential structure of the corresponding Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) quantum error-correcting code. It is known that conjugate code pairs are applicable to quantum cryptography. In this work, a polynomial construction of conjugate code pairs is presented. The constructed pairs achieve the highest known achievable rate on additive channels, and are decodable with algorithms of polynomial complexity.

Classical product code constructions for quantum Calderbank-Shor-Steane codes

Dimiter Ostrev, Davide Orsucci, Francisco Lázaro +1 more

Several notions of code products are known in quantum error correction, such as hypergraph products, homological products, lifted products, balanced products, to name a few. In this paper we introduce a new product code construction which is a natural generalization of classical product codes to quantum codes: starting from a set of component Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) codes, a larger CSS code is obtained where both X parity checks and Z parity checks are associated to classical product codes. We deduce several properties of product CSS codes from the properties of the component codes, including bounds to the code distance, and show that built-in redundancies in the parity checks result in so-called meta-checks which can be exploited to correct syndrome read-out errors. We then specialize to the case of single-parity-check (SPC) product codes which in the classical domain are a common choice for constructing product codes. Logical error rate simulations of a SPC 3 -fold product CSS code having parameters [[512,174,8]] are shown under both a maximum likelihood decoder for the erasure channel and belief propagation decoding for depolarizing noise. We compare the results with other codes of comparable length and dimension, including a code from the family of asymptotically good Tanner codes. We observe that our reference product CSS code outperforms all the other examined codes.

Phase-Space Representations of Quantum Error-Correcting Codes

Enrico Bozzetto, Jonte R. Hance

We connect the structure theorem for quasiprobability representations to quantum error correction. For a code space invariant under a subgroup of an extended Weyl-Heisenberg group, the Brif-Mann construction gives a semi-functorial representation whenever its kernel satisfies the Stratonovich-Weyl axioms, and composes on channels covering full error-correction cycles. With phase-space parity available, a kernel other than the ordinary Wigner one exists iff the code space is invariant under a lattice of displacements: among compact-phase-space bosonic codes, this is only the ideal Gottesman-Kitaev-Preskill family; in finite dimension, this is every qudit stabiliser code, whose negative volume for odd prime dimension is the syndrome-averaged logical magic. For rotation-symmetric, one-photon, non-Pauli qudit and spin codes only the ordinary kernel remains, its negativity reflecting the physical carrier, not logical content; a sector-graded representation built from recovery isometries restores a resource reading. We add a channel atlas, a closed-form magic lifetime under displacement noise, a Kirkwood-Dirac layer, and finite-energy corrections.

The σσσ hulls of matrix-product codes and related entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes
Let SLAut(Fqn)\mathrm{SLAut}(\mathbb{F}_{q}^{n})SLAut(Fqn) denote the group of all semilinear isometries on Fqn\mathbb{F}_{q}^{n}Fqn, where q=peq=p^{e}q=pe is a prime power. Matrix-product (MP) codes are a class of long classical codes generated by combining several commensurate classical codes with a defining matrix. We give an explicit formula for calculating the dimension of the σσσ hull of a MP code. As a result, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for the MP codes to be σσσ dual-containing and σσσ self-orthogonal. We prove that for any integer hhh with max{0,k1−k2}≤h≤dimFq(C1∩C2⊥σ)\mathrm{max}\{0,k_{1}-k_{2}\}\leq h\leq \mathrm{dim}_{\mathbb{F}_{q}}(\mathcal{C}_{1}\cap\mathcal{C}_{2}^{\bot_σ})max{0,k1−k2}≤h≤dimFq(C1∩C2⊥σ), there exists a linear code C2,h\mathcal{C}_{2,h}C2,h monomially equivalent to C2\mathcal{C}_{2}C2 such that dimFq(C1∩C2,h⊥σ)=h\mathrm{dim}_{\mathbb{F}_{q}}(\mathcal{C}_{1}\cap\mathcal{C}_{2,h}^{\bot_σ})=hdimFq(C1∩C2,h⊥σ)=h, where Ci\mathcal{C}_{i}Ci is an [n,ki]q[n,k_{i}]_{q}[n,ki]q linear code for i=1,2i=1,2i=1,2. We show that given an [n,k,d]q[n,k,d]_{q}[n,k,d]q linear code C\mathcal{C}C, there exists a monomially equivalent [n,k,d]q[n,k,d]_{q}[n,k,d]q linear code Ch\mathcal{C}_{h}Ch, whose σσσ dual code has minimum distance d′d'd′, such that there exist an [[n,k−h,d;n−k−h]]q[[n,k-h,d;n-k-h]]_{q}[[n,k−h,d;n−k−h]]q EAQECC and an [[n,n−k−h,d′;k−h]]q[[n,n-k-h,d';k-h]]_{q}[[n,n−k−h,d′;k−h]]q EAQECC for every integer hhh with 0≤h≤dimFq(Hullσ(C))0\leq h\leq \mathrm{dim}_{\mathbb{F}_{q}}(\mathrm{Hull}_σ(\mathcal{C}))0≤h≤dimFq(Hullσ(C)).
