Cavity Size Effects on the Spontaneous Emission Dynamics

Abstract

An atom-cavity field interaction scheme between Jaynes-Cummings (JC) and Weisskopf-Wigner (WW) model is varied by changing the cavity-mode density which is dependent on the cavity size. In order to see this, excited state dynamics of a two-level atom in a one-dimensional cavity is studied. Cavity modified quantum beat realized in a three-state atom inside a cavity is also discussed.

Effect of dipole-dipole interaction among atoms on atomic dynamics and entropy evolution of the field

衣学喜, 孙昌璞

New developments in the high techniques associated with quantum optics have made it possible to produce a high-Q cavity with an extremely small size comparable to the wavelength of atomic emission. In such cavities with so small size, many distinctive phenomena of atomic motion interacting with cavity field appear to be quite attractive. The Jaynes-Cummings model describes the interaction of a two-level atom with a single mode field. Extended Jaynes–Cummings model in a damped cavity

JOSIP SEKE

By using a new technique, developed recently by the author, analytic and numerical solutions are obtained for the spontaneous emission from a single two-level atom interacting with a three-dimensional multimode radiation field with a narrow frequency range in a damped cavity.

Transient theory of cavity-modified spontaneous emission

Jonathan S. Parker, Carlos R. Stroud

We present a numerical and analytical study of a multimode Jaynes-Cummings model describing the spontaneous decay of a single atom in a high-Q cavity. The theory of cavity-modified spontaneous emission is discussed in terms of quantities that have clear physical interpretations: the photon wave packet radiated by the atom, its reflection by the cavity boundaries, and its reabsorption by the atom. Multimode corrections to the single-mode Jaynes-Cummings model are calculated. The multimode corrections are formulated in terms of quantities that may be calculated by solving the single-mode equations of motion.

Dynamics of the collective spontaneous emission of two three-level atoms in a cavity

Eugene K. Bashkirov

Based on the master equation for the density matrix, the collective spontaneous emission of two A-type three-level atoms interacting with two modes of a quantum electromagnetic field in a finite- Q cavity is studied. The evolution of the emission intensity for each mode is found for the case where both atoms are initially in the excited state.

Numerical simulations of atomic decay in cavities and material media

Vladimír Bužek, G. Drobný, Min Gyu Kim +2 more

Starting from first principles we simulate numerically the dynamics of a system of two-level atoms interacting with a multimode electromagnetic field in a one-dimensional cavity. In particular, we investigate the spontaneous emission of an excited two-level atom in the cavity. We show how the decay depends on the mode spectrum and on the position of the atom in the cavity. We study how the spontaneous emission is modified when the initially excited atom is surrounded by a material medium modeled as a system of two-level atoms. We also study the propagation of photon wave packets emitted by the atom within the material media. Our microscopic model provides us with a deeper understanding of the atom-field interaction and offers us a framework for a systematic investigation of the transition from a microscopic to a macroscopic (phenomenological) description of the spontaneous decay in material media (e.g., dielectrics).

Squeezing effect of the cavity field in the two-atom Jaynes-Cummings model

Jun Liang

Authors investigate the model that two two level atoms interact with a single mode cavity. The formulation of the time evolution operator for the two atom Jaynes Cummings model is presented by the bare states approach. Besides, squeezing effect of the cavity field is studied and some novel features are obtained.
