Abstract

We study experimentally and theoretically the limits of multi-channel parametric wavelength conversion imposed by pump-depletion, in periodically poled LiNbQ3 waveguides. Up to 55 channels with 6dBm of power each, can be simultaneously converted with less than 10−9 error rate using a pump power of 20dBm.

We study experimentally and theoretically the limits of multichannel parametric wavelength conversion imposed by pump depletion in periodically poled LiNbO3 waveguides. As many as 55 channels with 6 dBm of power each can be converted simultaneously with less than a 10-9 error rate by use of 20 dBm of pump power.

Channel-selective wavelength conversion and tuning in periodically poled Ti:LiNbO3 waveguides

Yeung Lak Lee, Changsoo Jung, Young-Chul Noh +4 more

All-optical wavelength-selective single- and dual-channel wavelength conversion and tuning has been demonstrated in a periodically poled Ti:LiNbO(3) waveguide that has two second-harmonic phase-matching peaks by cascaded sum and difference frequency generation (cSFG/DFG). The wavelength conversion efficiency was measured to be -7 dB with coupled pump power of 233 mW.

All-Optical Wavelength Conversion Based on the Cascaded Sum and Difference Frequency Generation in a Periodically Poled Lithium-Niobate Waveguide

Jian Wang

The principle of all-optical wavelength conversion based on the cascaded sum and difference frequency generation (SFG+DFG) in quasi-phase-matched (QPM) periodically poled LiNbO3 (PPLN) waveguides is introduced. The conversion efficiency of the wavelength converter is calculated. The influences of the powers and span of two pumps on the conversion efficiency are analyzed. Bandwidth of one pump wavelength is discussed. The tuning is about 0.5 nm. The signal pulse width is compressed about 0.68 times.

Wavelength conversion with a 12 dB parametric gain is demonstrated using a picosecond pulse-to-pulse interaction in a periodically poled Zn:LiNbO3 waveguide. Reduced photorefractive damage enabled intense pumping at a relatively low temperature (~50°C).

Single-to-Multiple Channel Wavelength Conversions and Tuning of Picosecond Pulses in Quasi-Phase-Matched Waveguides

Jian Wang, Junqiang Sun, Luo Chuan-hong +3 more

We report the single-to-multiple channel wavelength conversions of 1.57-ps pulses based on cascaded second-harmonic generation and difference frequency generation in quasi-phase-matched periodically poled lithium niobate waveguides. For single-to-single channel wavelength conversion, no external cavity laser is required with use of a fibre ring laser. The conversion efficiency is about -21.44 dB. The converted idler wavelength can be tuned from 1526.4 nm to 1537.5 nm as the lasing pump wavelength is varied from 1566.1 nm to 1555.0 nm. By employing several input pumps, tunable single-to-dual and single-to-triple channel wavelength conversions are experimentally demonstrated.

Marco Fiorentino B, S. M. Spillane, Raymond G. Beausoleil +3 more

We present a theoretical and experimental comparison of spontaneous parametric down-conversion in periodically poled waveguides and bulk KTP crystals. We measured a waveguide pair generation rate of 2.9.10(6) pairs/s per mWof pump in a 1-nm band: more than 50 times higher than the bulk crystal generation rate.
