Enhancement of Quantum Current in Mesoscopic Coupled Rings

Abstract

We discuss the relationship between external magnetic field and persistent currents of three mesoscopic-coupled rings with charge discreteness. Through numerical calculation and analysis, it is found that the properties of the persistent currents depend on both external magnetic flux and coupled factors. The positive coupling between the rings will decrease the persistent currents when 0< m <1 with m being the coupling coefficient. The quantum current magnification effect appearing in the rings is also investigated.

Bloch-like oscillations induced by charge discreteness in quantum mesoscopic rings

Juan Cesar Flores, Edmundo Lazo

We study the effect of charge discreteness in a quantum mesoscopic ring wih inductance L. The ring is pierced by a time depending external magnetic field. When the external magnetic flux varies uniformly, the current induced in the ring oscillates with a frequency proportional to the charge discreteness and the flux variation. This phenomenon is very similar to the well known Bloch's oscillation in crystals. The similitude is related to the charge discreteness in the charge-current representation, which plays the same role as the constant lattice in crystals.

Mesoscopic Luttinger liquid theory in an Aharonov-Bohm ring

Mun Dae Kim, Sam Young Cho, Chul Koo Kim +1 more

A careful study on the mesoscopic persistent current in a Luttinger liquid ring is carried out. It is shown that discreteness plays an important role in calculating the persistent current caused by the magnetic flux. At zero temperature, the current is shown to be independent of the interaction even when ${g=(g}_{2}\ensuremath{-}{g}_{4})/2$ is not zero. The current becomes enhanced at finite temperatures with respect to the noninteracting case, when the parameter g is positive.

Quantum decoherence, charge detection, and single-electron entanglement in a mesoscopic ring

Sam Young Cho, Gyong Luck Khym, Kicheon Kang

We investigate the effect of local charge detection in an Aharonov-Bohm ring composed of $N$ identical coupled quantum dots. It is found that the single-electron persistent current of the ring is not fully suppressed in the limit of perfect charge detection except for the case of $N=2$. This property is analyzed for a single electron in the number-state representation. We point out that the nonvanishing persistent current can be understood in terms of the single-electron entanglement in the number-state representation. In addition, we find that the local charge detection may produce a finite persistent current even in the absence of the external magnetic fields.

The quantum theory for a mesoscopic electric circuit with charge discreteness is investigated. The persistent current on a quantum ring using an algebraic approach have been obtained. The energy spectrum and the persistent current of a quantum LC-design mesoscopic circuit, with a time-dependent external source, have been found.

The Quantum Current and Energy Spectrum in Mesoscopic Metal Ring and the Quantum Fluctuations under External Magnetic Field

Cui Yuan-shun

For the mesoscopic metal ring system in external magnetic field, supposing the system has a symmetry under translation in charge space, the quantum current and the quantum energy spectrum in mesoscopic metal ring are given by solving thire eigenvalue equations;and the quantum fluctuations of the current and the energy have been calculated by the character of the minimum shift operator. The properties of the quantum current and the quantum energy spectrum have been investigated, and the effects of the parameters on the quantum fluctuations are analysed. The results show that the quantum current and the quantum energy spectrum are not only related with the external magnetic field and the parameters of the mesoscopic metal ring, but depended on the quantization character of the charge evidently.

Quantum current enhancement effect in hybrid rings at equilibrium

Colin Benjamin, A. M. Jayannavar

Current enhancement- a novel quantum phenomena is found to occur in a mesoscopic hybrid ring at equilibrium. The hybrid system is described by a ring with bubble which is in turn coupled to a reservoir. In the system the ring encloses a magnetic flux $Φ$ while the bubble does not enclose any flux. The novelty of this work lies in the fact that while earlier current enhancement was observed in non-equilibrium systems (e.g., a ring coupled to two reservoirs at different chemical potentials $μ_{1}$ and $μ_{2}$), herein we prove that current enhancement can also arise in equilibrium. In addition, we show that the closed system analog of our chosen open hybrid ring system violates parity effects. Finally, we bring to focus the discrepancy between the equilibrium magnetic moment (obtained via energy eigenvalues) and that calculated from the currents in the system.
