We examine extended bound states in a dilute limit of the extended Hubbard model on the two-dimensional square lattice.By solving exactly the two-body problem we have determined the binding energies, mobilities, and dispersion curves across the Brillouin zone for bound states of various symmetries. It turns out that the d-wave pairing is strongly favored by the nnn hopping and the intersite local pairs can have small effective masses, even in the case of strong binding. We have also found a possibility of extended S-d2-2 mixing of the bound states.
We have calculated the energy of the resonating-valence-bond (RVB) state made of nearest-neighbor singlet pairs in the two-dimensional Hubbard model at half filling and the energy of holes in the RVB state near half filling. The energy of the RVB state was obtained by extrapolating the result in a 6\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}6 square lattice with the periodic boundary condition to the infinite lattice. The energy of holes was obtained by examining the first five moments of the density of states of holes in the RVB state. We find that the holes are more stabilized in the RVB state than in the N\'eel state for J/t\ensuremath{\gtrsim}0.1, where J and t are the exchange interaction and the nearest-neighbor hopping integral, respectively. We discuss the possibility of the RVB state in the high-

We investigate the ground state (T = 0 K) of the one-dimensional symmetrical (n = 1) Hubbard model formalized in terms of the system of integral equations, which we previously obtained using the method of the generating functional of Green’s functions with the subsequent Legendre transformation. In a wide range of variations in the parameter of Coulomb interaction U, the following characteristics of the system have been calculated: the electron density of states, the electron band spectrum, the number of doubly occupied lattice sites, the localized magnetic moment, the correlator of the square of the longitudinal component of spin at a site,<S Z 2>, and the internal energy of the system. It has been shown that, for all U > 0, the model yields two solutions, i.e., an antiferromagnetic insulator and a paramagnetic insulator, in which there are no single-electron quasi-particles at the Fermi level. The energy of the paramagnetic solution in the region of U < 1.1 is considerably less than that of the antiferromagnetic solution for the case of U > 1.1, we have the opposite situation.
The low-temperature thermodynamics of the one-dimensional Hubbard model with attractive on-site interaction of the electrons is discussed within the framework of the Bethe ansatz for the wave function. At low T the dominant states consist of spin-paired electrons (Cooper-pair-like) and excitations of such pairs (without breaking up the singlet bound states). A critical field Hc (energy required to depair a Cooper pair) is obtained at T=0 (note that the superconducting Tc =0), which disappears for T≠0. There is no magnetic response at T=0 for H<Hc . The one-electron correlation function falls off exponentially with distance, while the singlet pair–singlet pair correlation decreases with a power law. The specific heat is linear in temperature, which is possibly a consequence of the dimension. The elementary excitations of the system are discussed. The excitation spectrum shows some analogies to that of resonant valence bonds in two dimensions.
In this paper the spin configurations of the ground state and one- and two-electron excited states of the Hubbard model on the square lattice are studied. We profit from a general rotated-electron description, which is consistent with the model global
SO(3)×SO(3)×U(1) symmetry. For rotated electrons, doubly and single occupancy are good quantum numbers for on-site repulsion
U>0. The above states are within that description generated by occupancy configurations of charge
c fermions and spin-singlet two-spinon
s1 bond particles. Those describe the charge and spin degrees of freedom, respectively, of the rotated electrons that singly occupy sites. While the
c fermions have no internal structure, that of the spin-neutral
s1 bond-particle occupancy configurations is here described in terms of spinon occupancies of a well-defined effective spin lattice. In reference \cite{companion} it is confirmed that our results contribute to the further understanding of the role of electronic correlations in the spin spectrum of the parent compound La

The single-band Hubbard model (both with and without first-neighbor interactions) is studied by exact diagonalization on several one- and two-dimensional clusters, ranging from four to nine sites, including rings and arrangements of squares. Occupancies include the half-filled band (one electron per site) and configurations with one and two holes in the half-filled band. Ground-state properties are determined for a wide range of parameters. We discuss the phase diagram in the (U,V) plane and consider spin, charge, and pairing correlations. The binding of a pair of holes is investigated. Circumstances in which binding and pairing are enhanced by first-neighbor interactions are described.
