DERIVATION OF LAUGHLIN'S WAVEFUNCTION IN ANYON SYSTEM

Abstract

In a semiclassical approximation we derive the ground-state wavefunction of the system of anyons in an external magnetic field, where anyons are interacting via the Coulomb interaction. The statistical interactions are treated in perturbation around the boson limit. The wavefunction coincides with the Laughlin wavefunction except for small corrections due to the Coulomb interaction. We also calculate the ground-state energy and the excitation spectrum.

Exact Ground State Wave Functions for N Anyons in a Magnetic Field on the Torus

Ansar Fayyazuddin

The complete set of ground state wave functions for N anyons in an external magnetic field on the torus is found. The cases when the filling factor is less than or equal to one are considered. The single valued description of anyons is employed through out by coupling bosons to a Chern-Simons field. At the end, the Chern-Simons interaction is removed by a singular gauge transformation as a result of which the wave functions become multi-component in agreement with other studies. Exact Ground State Solution for Anyons with spin-$\frac {1}{2}$

Shun-Qing Shen, Jianming Cai, Ruibao Tao

We solve the problem of anyons with spin- in an external field and obtain one of exact wavefunctions for its ground state, which is highly degenerated. Using Laughlin's plasma analogy, we find that there exists the algebraic off-diagonal long-range order for the ground state wavefunction in a certain external magnetic field.

BRAID GROUP REPRESENTATION AND FRACTIONAL QUANTUM HALL EFFECT

Christopher Hian Ann Ting, C. H. LAI

We discuss Laughlin's ground state and its derivation in the path integral approach. When the external magnetic field is very strong, we regard all electron-electron interactions such as the Coulomb term as weak perturbations. It seems that from the non-trivial topology of the configuration space alone, it is possible to arrive at a Hamiltonian for which Laughlin wavefunctions are exact ground states.

Collective Mode of Semion Systems

X. C. Xie, Song He, S. Das Sarma

The ground and the excited states of a two-dimensional anyon system are studied via finite-size numerical calculations and single-mode approximation in a spherical geometry. It is shown that Laughlin's mean field theory gives an accurate description of the ground state properties. We find, consistent with earlier analytic theories, that the collective mode of the system exhibits a linear dispersion in the long wavelength limit, and predict a novel roton minimum at a finite value of the wavenumber q. We also discuss the consequences on the anyon spectrum of having a model repulsive interaction between the particles.

Multianyon spectra and wave functions

Chihong Chou

We study a many-body system consisting of $N$ identical anyons in an external harmonic-oscillator potential. A partial set of exact solutions is obtained by using Jacobi coordinates. For completing the full investigation, we employ a perturbative method to compute those spectra, which have not been analytically obtained. Near the boson limit, we point out that the requirement of the boson being hard core is needed for performing the perturbative calculations, and the first-order $N$-anyon ground-state energies are explicitly presented by using a proper regulation procedure. Up to third perturbative order from the fermion limit, the three-anyon ground-state energy corrections are explicitly presented. Finally we compute the first-order three-anyon ground-state wave function near the fermion limit.
