Abstract

The specific heat for the asymmetric Anderson model is calculated over a physically relevant temperature range by means of the Bethe-Ansatz method. The effect of a magnetic field on the specific heat is also investigated.

Thermodynamic properties of the Anderson model (invited)

Ayao Okiji, Norio Kawakami

It is shown that the Anderson Hamiltonian is one of the Hamiltonians which can be solved exactly by means of the Bethe ansatz method. The thermodynamic quantities calculated on the basis of the exact solution are the magnetic susceptibility and the electronic specific heat.

Introduction to the Thermodynamics of Spin Chains

Luca Mezincescu, Rafael I. Nepomechie

We review how to obtain the thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz (TBA) equations for the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg ring in an external magnetic field. We review how to solve these equations for low temperature and small field, and calculate the specific heat and magnetic susceptibility.

Low-temperature features of thermodynamics of an open isotropic Heisenberg chain

Andrei A. Zvyagin, A. V. Makarova

Low-temperature magnetic susceptibility and specific heat of an antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain with open boundary conditions are calculated with the help of the exact Bethe ansatz method. These characteristics behave with temperature in a different way from those of a periodic chain.

Numerical Calculation of Thermodynamic Quantities of Spin-1/2 Anisotropic Heisenberg Ring

Minoru Takahashi

Thermodynamic quantities such as specific heat and magnetic susceptibility are calculated numerically for the one-dimensional spin-1/2 Heisenberg-Ising model at Δ= 0, ±0.5, ±1/√2. We use a set of nonlinear integral equations which is derived from the Bethe ansatz and from some assumptions on the distribution of quasi-momenta. In the same way we calculate the specific heat of the one-dimensional X-Y-Z model in zero field, putting various values into the coupling constants (Jx, Jy, Jz).

Equivalence of the perturbative and Bethe-Ansatz solution of the symmetric Anderson Hamiltonian

B. Horvatié, V. Zlatié

We show that the exact Bethe-Ansatz results for the spin and charge susceptibilities and the specific heat for the symmetric Anderson model can be expanded in power series which converge absolutely for any finite value of the expansion parameter U/πΔ and which coincide with Yosida and Yamada's perturbative expansions for the same quantities. The coefficients of these expansions are found to satisfy the simple recursion relation Cn = (2 n — 1) Cn-1 - (π/2)2 Cn-2 and to decrease rapidly with increasing order. Hence a small number of terms proves sufficient for an accurate description of the system even in the strong correlation regime (U/πΔ ≳ 2). Finally, we discuss an attempt to construct a perturbative solution for the ground state of the asymmetric Anderson Hamiltonian.

The magnetic field dependence of the specific heat in quantum spin chains with axial symmetry

N. Papanicolaou, P Spathis

The magnetic specific heat in a class of spin- 1 / 2 chains with uniaxial anisotropy is determined accurately by a numerical solution of certain integral equations derived earlier through the Bethe ansatz. The specific heat exhibits a characteristic double peak as a function of an applied magnetic field which cannot be accounted for by the spin wave approximation. This illustrates the importance of non-linearity for the thermodynamics of quantum spin chains even at low temperature.
