Abstract

We realized a logical function of bit-to-bit parallel multiplication for optical echo-processor based on the third-order nonlinear optical response of a resonant medium at room temperature. As an operating medium we used the polyvinilbutural film doped with phthalocyanine dye. The result of the logical operation is presented in the spectrum of the nonlinear optical response after action of the two spectrally coded pumping pulses. The time of the logical operation is about 500 fs. We obtained the values of a homogeneous broadening of S0 - S1 line: Γhom = 89 cm-1 at T = 300 K and Γhom = 44 cm-1 at T = 77 K. The laser excitation parameters needed for effective operating of optical processor are defined. The maximum word length achievable under current experimental conditions is estimated.

The possibility to mechanize at room temperature a logical function of bit-to-bit parallel multiplication for optical echo-processor based on the third-order nonlinear optical response of a resonant medium is experimentally studied. The polyvinilbutural film doped with phthalocyanine dye was used as an operating medium in our experiments. The time needed to realize the logical operation, the result of which is presented in the spectrum of the nonlinear optical response of the medium after action of the two spectrally coded pumping pulses, is less than 1 ps. The values of a homogeneous broadening of S 0 – S 1 line Γ hom = 89 cm -1 and Γ hom = 44 cm -1 are established at T = 300 K and T = 77 K respectively. The laser excitation parameters needed for effective operating of optical processor are defined. The maximum word length achievable under current experimental conditions is estimated.

Implementation of room temperature femtosecond echo-processing

Georgy M. Safiullin, Victor G. Nikiforov, Vladimir S. Lobkov +2 more

Conditions for implementing room temperature femtosecond echo-processing in a phtalocyanine-doped polyvinylbutyral film were studied. A logical operation of bit-by-bit multiplication on the basis of the nonlinear third-order optical response (primary photon echo) of the medium was performed in a time of less than 1 ps.

Femtosecond photon echo in dye-doped polymer films at room temperature

В. В. Самарцев

The signals of primary and stimulated femtosecond photon echo in polymer films doped with dye (phthalocyanine) molecules have been experimentally investigated at room temperature. A femtosecond echo spectrometer for these echo experiments is described. The decay curves of echo signals with increasing time intervals between excitation femtosecond pulses are obtained and blue shifts of the spectra of femtosecond echo signals with respect to the spectrum of excitation pulses are revealed. The possibilities of using the studied doped polymer films as recording media for high-temperature echo processors and coolants in optical refrigerators are analyzed.

Dye-doped polymer films for dynamic echo-holography applications

Olga M. Fedotova, Oleg Kh Khasanov, A. Leontiev +4 more

Detailed analysis of two-pulse photon echo (2PPE) generation in thin dye-doped polyvinylbutural films in large temperature interval (from liquid helium temperature to room temperature) is presented. The focus of the study is on the non-collinear scheme of echo-hologram recording and analysis of the temporal behavior of the echo-signals as well as their spectrum in dependence on the angle beta between the wave vectors of the excitation pulses. The distinguishing feature of polymer films is their extremely large inhomogeneous width of spectral line. As follows from a phase matching condition with increasing beta the 2PPE signal frequency shifts to blue spectral range in relation to the central frequency of transition even if the exciting pulses are in resonance. The more the angle beta, the larger the blue shift.

Stimulated femtosecond photon echo in a dye-doped polymer film at room temperature

Vladimir S. Lobkov, A V Leontiev, К. М. Салихов +3 more

It is reported about the first observation (in a solid-state sample) and detailed investigation of the stimulated femtosecond photon echo (SFPE) signals at room temperature in a polyvinylbutural film doped with molecules of phthalocyanine of HW 1009 type at the wavelength of 788 nm. A dependence of relative intensity of these echo-signals on time intervals between the second and the third exciting pulses was studied and the SFPE spectrum was investigated with respect to the spectra of both exciting pulses and signals of self-diffraction. It was found that the linear electron-phonon coupling is weak and the influence of the phonon-side band of the absorption line on the SFPE signals is less significantly than on the signals of primary photon echo.

Femtosecond photon echo in dye-doped polymer film at room temperature

Vladimir S. Lobkov, К. М. Салихов, В. В. Самарцев +2 more

The first observation is reported of the primary and stimulated femtosecond photon echoes at liquid nitrogen and room temperatures in a dye-doped polymer film at a wavelength of 780 nm. Echo signals were generated by pulses with the duration of 65 fs. The primary echo signal decay at liquid nitrogen and room temperatures can not be described by a simple exponential function. The decay of primary echo signal at room temperature demonstrates complex behavior caused by the presence of the phonon-side band in the optical band of impurity centers. There were also detected signals of the self-diffraction of exciting pulses on a nonequilibrium population difference grating, induced in resonant medium by these pulses.
