Imaginary-Time Periodicity in η-ξ Spacetime

Abstract

The relations between the imaginary-time periodicity and the thermal Bogoliubov transformation in η-ξ field theory are discussed. It has been shown that the thermal Bogoliubov transformation leads to the imaginary-time periodicity of the Green function in η-ξ spacetime and to the KMS condition.

A Direct Transformation Between Imaginary-Time and Real-Time Thermofield Theories Induced by Section Rotations in η-ξ Spacetime

Yuanxing Gui, Yajun Gao

Some suitable complex-time transformation is combined organically with the theory of η-ξ spacetime and a so-called η-ξ complex-time transformation is constructed, which gives some section rotations in η-ξ spacetime and induces a direct transformation between the imaginary-time and real-time thermo field theories.

Bogoliubov transformation and the thermal operator representation in the real time formalism

Ashok Das, Atri Deshamukhya, Pushpa Kalauni +1 more

It has been shown earlier [Phys. Rev. D 72, 085006 (2005), Phys. Rev. D 73, 065010 (2006)] that, in the mixed space, there is an unexpected simple relation between any finite temperature graph and its zero temperature counterpart through a multiplicative scalar operator (termed thermal operator) which carries the entire temperature dependence. This holds only in the imaginary time formalism and the closed time path ($\ensuremath{\sigma}=0$) of the real time formalism (as well as for its conjugate $\ensuremath{\sigma}=1$). We study the origin of this operator from the more fundamental Bogoliubov transformation which acts, in the momentum space, on the doubled space of fields in the real time formalisms [Collective Phenomena 2, 55 (1975), Int. J. Mod. Phys. B 10, 1755 (1996), Thermo Field Dynamics and Condensed States (North-Holland, Amsterdam, 1982), Phys. Rev. D 93, 125028 (2016)]. We show how the ($2\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}2$) Bogoliubov transformation matrix naturally leads to the scalar thermal operator for $\ensuremath{\sigma}=0$, 1 while it fails for any other value $0<\ensuremath{\sigma}<1$. This analysis also suggests that a generalized scalar thermal operator description, in the mixed space, is possible even for $0<\ensuremath{\sigma}<1$. We also show the existence of a scalar thermal operator relation in the momentum space.

Derivation of Tilde Rules in η - ξ Spacetime

Jianping Zuo, Yuanxing Gui

The M operation is introduced in η - ξ spacetime to derive the tilde rules in thermo field dynamics (TFD). This leads to an explanation of the tilde system in TFD as the system in region II of η - ξ spacetime.

η-ξ vacuum and Thermal Green's functions

Xu Feng, Gui Yuan-Xing

In the previous paper, a new vacuum state was defined. As claimed in that paper, this vacuum state is a thermal state in the ordinary sense. In this paper, we derive the Green's function of this vacuum and prove that it is exactly the ordinary finite temperature thermal Green function. So we demonstrate that this state is exactly the thermally equilibrium state.

eta - xi spacetime and the tilde freedom in thermo field dynamics

Zuo Jian, Gui Yuan-Xing

The CM operations are introduced in the theory of eta - xi spacetime. They have the same properties as the tilde rules in thermo field dynamics (TFD); we can, therefore, identify them with the tilde operation. This leads to the conclusion that the tilde system in TFD can be regarded as the system in region II (mirror universe) of eta - xi spacetime.

Thermal out-of-time-order correlators, KMS relations, and spectral functions

Felix M. Haehl, R. Loganayagam, Prithvi Narayan +2 more

We describe general features of thermal correlation functions in quantum systems, with specific focus on the fluctuation-dissipation type relations implied by the KMS condition. These end up relating correlation functions with different time ordering and thus should naturally be viewed in the larger context of out-of-time-ordered (OTO) observables. In particular, eschewing the standard formulation of KMS relations where thermal periodicity is combined with time-reversal to stay within the purview of Schwinger-Keldysh functional integrals, we show that there is a natural way to phrase them directly in terms of OTO correlators. We use these observations to construct a natural causal basis for thermal n-point functions in terms of fully nested commutators. We provide several general results which can be inferred from cyclic orbits of permutations, and exemplify the abstract results using a quantum oscillator as an explicit example.
