Burning-hole behavior of the intersubband absorption in semiconductor superlattices

Guozhong Zhao

The burning-hole behavior of intersubband absorption in semiconductor superlattices is studied by means of the two- subband model. The Maxwell-Bloch equations of laser- superlattice interaction are derived and solved at the steady condition. The absorptive coefficient as a function of the frequency of probe laser is given. The theoretical and numerical results how that the burning hole of the absorption-frequency curve occurs when the pump laser is enough strong. The burning-hole behavior is related closely to the structure of the semiconductor superlattices.

Photon-gated spectral hole burning study on inorganic material BaFCl_(0.5)Br_(0.5) : Sm~(2+)

Hongsheng Qian, Yu Jiaqi

Investigations of photon- gated spectral hole burning and its mechanism for the inorganic material BaFCl0.5Br0.5 : Sm2+ are presented. Multiple holes burning, hole erasing and repeatable hole burning were realized. Gating ratio and hole stability were also measured. The experimental results indicated that more than 1 × 103 persistent spectral holes within an inhomogeneously broadened absorption band of BaFCl0. 5Br0.5 : Sm2+ at low temperature of 4 K could be burned.

Organic frequency-selective materials for ultrafast optical storage and processing

Aleksander K. Rebane

Spectral hole burning (SHB) allows to extend conventional spatial-domain optical data storage and coherent processing into the dimensions of frequency and time. To achieve ultrafast performance, on the time scale of 10-12 - 10-13s, we use organic dye-doped polymer materials at liquid-helium temperature. These materials enable SHB recording and coherent transient responses with a broad optical band width of 5 - 10 THz. We discuss applications of organic SHB systems for associative recall of time-and-space domain events, spectral programming of pulse trains, Stark switching of holograms, THz-bit-rate multiplication, cross- spectral processing and photon gated recording of erasure resistant coherent transients.
