Negative binomial states of the field-operator representation and production by state reduction in optical processes

Abstract

Properties of the radiation fields in negative binomial states are investigated. The density matrix of the field is related to the density matrix ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\rho}}}_{\mathit{c}}$ of the chaotic field via ${\mathit{a}}^{\mathit{s}}$${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\rho}}}_{\mathit{c}}$${\mathit{a}}^{\mathrm{\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}}\mathit{s}}$. Various quasiprobability distributions and the thermofield representation for negative binomial states of the field are derived. The production of negative binomial distribution in a number of nonlinear processes is demonstrated.

Statistical properties of binomial and negative-binomial combinational optical field state and its generation in quantum diffusion channel

Fan Hong‐Yi, Ze Wu

According to the combinational binomial-negative-binomial distribution, we propose a binomial-negative-binomial combinational optical field state, which can be generated in the process of a Fock state |m>m| passing through a quantum-mechanical diffusion channel. We derive the second-order coherence degree formula, g(2)(t) =2-((m2+m)/(m+κt2)), which is the diffusion constant. We find that in the process of the Fock state undergoing quantum diffusion and becoming classical, the corresponding photon statistics evolves from sub-Poissonian distribution to Poisson distribution and finally goes to a chaotic state. We also find that the more photons in the initial Fock state, the longer time is needed for quantum decoherence.

SOME FEATURES OF SQUEEZED NEGATIVE BINOMIAL STATE

Amitabh Joshi, S. V. Lawande

Properties of electromagnetic field in the squeezed negative binomial state are investigated in terms of photon number distribution and Wigner function. The relationship of the density matrix of the squeezed negative binomial state to the density matrix of the squeezed thermal state is shown explicitly. The possibility of generation of the negative binomial state is also discussed.

Non-classical properties and algebraic characteristics of negative binomial states in quantized radiation fields

Wang, X G, Pan, S H, Yang Guo Zhen

We study the non-classical properties and algebraic characteristics of the negative binomial states introduced by Barnett recently. The ladder operator formalism and displacement operator formalism of the negative binomial states are found and the algebra involved turns out to be the SU(1,1) Lie algebra via the generalized Holstein-Primarkoff realization. These states are essentially Peremolov's SU(1,1) coherent states. We reveal their connection with the geometric states and find that they are excited geometric states. As intermediate states, they interpolate between the number states and geometric states. We also point out that they can be recognized as the nonlinear coherent states. Their non-classical properties, such as sub-Poissonian distribution and squeezing effect are discussed. The quasiprobability distributions in phase space, namely the Q and Wigner functions, are studied in detail.

Excited Binomial States and Excited Excited Binomial States and Excited Negative Binomial States of the Radiation Field and Some of their Statistical Properties

Xiaoguang Wang, Hong‐Chen Fu

We introduce excited binomial states and excited negative binomial states of the radiation field by repeated application of the photon creation operator on binomial states and negative binomial states. They reduce to Fock states and excited coherent states in certain limits and can be viewed as intermediate states between Fock states and coherent states. We find that both the excited binomial states and excited negative binomial states can be exactly normalized in terms of hypergeometric functions. Base on this interesting character, some of the statistical properties are discussed.

Negative binomial states of the quantized radiation field

Stephen Mark Barnett

Negative binomial states of a single field mode are introduced and their properties are compared with those of the (positive) binomial states. We find that the two types of state have similar properties if the roles of the creation and annihilation operators are interchanged.

Wigner Function of Density Operator for Negative Binomial Distribution

Xing-Lei Xu, Hongqi Li

By using the technique of integration within an ordered product (IWOP) of operator we derive Wigner function of density operator for negative binomial distribution of radiation field in the mixed state case, then we derive the Wigner function of squeezed number state, which yields negative binomial distribution by virtue of the entangled state representation and the entangled Wigner operator.
