Abstract

We present an approximate analytical solution to the population imbalance of two-component Bose–Einstein condensate with the coupling drive. The dependence of the time evolution of self-trapping upon the radio frequency wave, the Rabi coupling frequency, the initial atom number and relative phase between two condensates are investigated. The lower radio frequency wave, the same atom number and initial relative phase between condensates are beneficial to observe the self-trapping.

Atomic Tunneling Effect in Two-Component Bose-Einstein Condensates with a Coupling Drive

JIAOZhi-Yong, Zhiyong, Yu +3 more

In this paper, we have studied the atomic population difference and the atomic tunneling current of twocomponent Bose-Einstein condensates with a coupling drive. It is found that when the two-component Bose-Einstein condensates are initially in the coherent states, the atomic population difference may exhibit the step structure, in which the numbers of the step increase with the decrease of the Rabi frequency and with the increment of the initial phase difference. The atomic population difference may exhibit collapses, and revivals, in which their periods are affected dramatically by the Rabi frequency and the initial phase difference. The atomic tunneling current may exhibit damping oscillation behaviors, and exist the step structure for the time range of 10-10 ~ 10-9 second.

Time evolution of the relative phase in two-component Bose-Einstein condensates with a coupling drive

Weidong Li, Xiaoji Zhou, Y. Q. Wang +2 more

The dynamics of two-component Bose-Einstein condensates with coupling drive is studied using a pair of bosonic operators. We demonstrate that the effect of the coupling drive on the evolution of the relative phase of the two-component Bose-Einstein condensates depends on the initial relative phase difference between the two condensates. In some special initial phase differences $(\ensuremath{\varphi}=0$ and $\ensuremath{\pi})$ the condensate density are not sinusoidal functions of time, and the interference pattern is not steady either. The coupling drive also reduces the amplitude and the period of the oscillation. Our theoretical result confirms the experimental observations reported in Phys. Rev. Lett. 81, 1543 (1998).

Dynamics and Berry phase of two-species Bose-Einstein condensates

Z.-D. Chen, J.-Q. Liang, Shun-Qing Shen +1 more

In terms of exact solutions of the time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation for an effective giant spin modeled from a coupled two-mode Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) with adiabatic and cyclic time-varying Raman coupling between two hyperfine states of the BEC, we obtain analytic time-evolution formulas of the population imbalance and relative phase between two components with various initial states, especially the SU(2) coherent state. We find the Berry phase depending on the number parity of atoms, and particle number dependence of the collapse revival of population-imbalance oscillation. It is shown that self-trapping and phase locking can be achieved from initial SU(2) coherent states with proper parameters.

Time-dependent self-trapping of Bose-Einstein condensates in a double-well potential

B. Cui, L. C. Wang, X. X. Yi

Based on the mean-field approximation and a phase-space analysis, we discuss the dynamics of Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) in a double-well potential. The condensates are found to be trapped in the time-dependent eigenstates of the effective Hamiltonian; we refer to this effect as time-dependent self-trapping of BECs. By comparison of this self-trapping with the adiabatic evolution, we find that adiabatic evolution beyond the traditional adiabatic condition can be achieved in BECs. Furthermore, the population imbalance of the BECs in the wells can be controlled by manipulating the atom-atom couplings and the driving field. The fixed points for the system are also calculated and discussed.

Rabi Oscillations in Two-Component Bose-Einstein Condensates with a Coupling Drive

LIWei-Dong, Wei-Dong, Fan Fan +7 more

The Rabi oscillations in two-component Bose-Einstein condensates with a coupling drive are studiedby means of a pair of bosonic operators. The coupling drive and initial phase difference will affect the amplitudeand the period of the Rabi oscillations. The Rabi oscillations will vanish in the evolution of the condensate densityfor some special initial phase differences (ψ = 0 or π). Our theory provides not only an analytical framework forquantitative predictions for two-component condensates, but also gives an intuitive understanding of some mysteriousfeatures observed in experiments and numerical. simulations.
