Squeezed states of light as self-similar structures

Abstract

A new approach to investigating a broad class of dynamic states for a quantum oscillator is suggested. It is based on an invariant transformation of the equation to a new time determined by the quantum dispersion of the corresponding state. The squeezed states of a quantum system generated by the ground-state wave function are constructed. In coordinate representation, these states are described by a self-similar wave function localized near a classical trajectory. The statistics of the squeezed state of light is analyzed in the single-mode approximation. The parametric excitation of squeezed states for a quantum harmonic oscillator is considered.

Wave function in the invariant representation and squeezed-state function of the time-dependent harmonic oscillator

Kyu Hwang Yeon, Hyon Ju Kim, Chung‐In Um +2 more

The two quantum invariant operators are found from the time-dependent Hamiltonian of the harmonic oscillator with an auxiliary condition. The solution of the Schr\"odinger equation for the system, such as the eigenfunctions, eigenvalues, and minimum uncertainty, is derived by utilizing these invariant operators. The coherent states of this system are not the squeezed states, and the eigenfunction of the invariant operator is not the eigenfunction of the Hamiltonian of the system unless it is in the invariant representation. The squeezing function, which is an eigenfunction of the Hamiltonian of the system in the invariant representation and which also gives the minimum uncertainty, is obtained by a set of unitary transformed operators, i.e., squeezing operators.

Time-evolution of squeezed coherent states of a generalized quantum parametric oscillator

Şirin A. Büyükaşık, Zehra Çayiç

Time evolution of squeezed coherent states for a quantum parametric oscillator with the most general self-adjoint quadratic Hamiltonian is found explicitly. For this, we use the unitary displacement and squeeze operators in coordinate representation and the evolution operator obtained by the Wei-Norman Lie algebraic approach. Then, we analyze squeezing properties of the wave packets according to the complex parameter of the squeeze operator and the time-variable parameters of the Hamiltonian. As an application, we construct all exactly solvable generalized quantum oscillator models classically corresponding to a driven simple harmonic oscillator. For each model, defined according to the frequency modification in position space, we describe explicitly the squeezing and displacement properties of the wave packets. This allows us to see the exact influence of all parameters and make a basic comparison between the different models.

Statistics of parametrically excited photon--added coherent states

V. V. Dodonov, Ya. A. Korennoy, Vladimir I. Man’ko +1 more

Photon distribution function, means and dispersions are found explicitly for the nonclassical state of light which is created from the photon--added coherent state $\vert α,m \rangle$ due to a time--dependence of the frequency of the electromagnetic field oscillator. Generating function for factorial momenta is obtained. The Wigner function and Q--function are constructed explicitly for the excited photon--added coherent state of light. Influence of added photons on known oscillations of photon distribution function for squeezed light is demonstrated. oscillator are considered.

Quantum dynamics of a particle trapped by oscillating fields

Alberes Lopes de Lima, Alexandre Rosas, I. A. Pedrosa

In this work we investigate the quantum dynamics of a particle trapped by oscillating fields. With the help of quadratic invariants and of the invariant method we solve analytically and exactly the Schrödinger equation for this system and write the corresponding wave functions in terms of solutions of the Milne–Pinney equation. We also construct coherent and squeezed states for this system and evaluate the quantum fluctuations in coordinate and momentum as well as the uncertainty product between canonical coordinate and momentum.

Correlations and squeezing of two-mode oscillations

ARTUR K. EKERT, P. L. Knight

In a squeezed state, the variance in one canonical variable may be suppressed below that normally associated with either the ground state or a coherent state, at the expense of an expansion in the variance of the conjugate variable. Squeezed states are usually discussed in the context of quantized light fields. The principal properties of squeezed states are demonstrated using the motion of quantum mechanical simple harmonic oscillators. The motion of a single oscillator is discussed to introduce the key concepts of squeezing, including quadrature operators, and the error contours of the Wigner function describing the quantum quasiprobability distributions in phase space of the oscillator motion. The main topic of two-mode squeezing is then addressed, in which the fluctuations in a system of two oscillators are tightly correlated. The existence of squeezing is demonstrated in normal mode coordinates representing motion of superpositions of the motion of the two oscillators. The fluctuations within a single oscillator are shown to increase when squeezing increases in the normal modes, generating thermal noise in individual mode subsystems.

THEORY OF CONTROLLED QUANTUM DYNAMICS

Salvatore De Martino, Silvio De Siena, Fabrizio Illuminati

We introduce a general formalism, based on the stochastic formulation of quantum mechanics, to obtain localized quasi-classical wave packets as dynamically controlled systems, for arbitrary anharmonic potentials. The control is in general linear, and it amounts to introduce additional quadratic and linear time-dependent terms to the given potential. In this way one can construct for general systems either coherent packets moving with constant dispersion, or dynamically squeezed packets whose spreading remains bounded for all times. In the standard operatorial framework our scheme corresponds to a suitable generalization of the displacement and scaling operators that generate the coherent and squeezed states of the harmonic oscillator.
