Entanglement dynamics in chaotic systems

Shohini Ghose, Barry C. Sanders

We study quantum chaos for systems with more than one degree of freedom, for which we present an analysis of the dynamics of entanglement. Our analysis explains the main features of entanglement dynamics and identifies entanglement-based signatures of quantum chaos. We discuss entanglement dynamics for a feasible experiment involving an atom in a magneto-optical trap and compare the results with entanglement dynamics for the well-studied quantum kicked top.

Time Evolution of Multi-Party Entanglement Signals

Vijay Balasubramanian, Hanzhi Jiang, Simon F. Ross

We study the real-time dynamics of multi-party entanglement signals in chaotic quantum many-body systems including but not necessarily restricted to holographic conformal field theories. We find that scrambling dynamics generates multiparty entanglement with rich structure including: (a) qualitatively different dynamical behaviours for different signals, likely reflecting different dynamics for different kinds of entanglement patterns, (b) discontinuities indicating dynamical phase transitions in the entanglement structure, (c) transient and non-monotonic multiparty entanglement, and (d) periods during which the extensive entanglement of some regions is entirely multipartite. Our main technical tool is the membrane theory of entanglement dynamics.

Markovian entanglement dynamics under locally scrambled quantum evolution

Wei-Ting Kuo, Ahmed A. Akhtar, Daniel P. Arovas +1 more

There has been much recent interest in understanding entanglement dynamics and operator spreading in the Haar random circuit and Brownian circuit, which can be unified as locally scrambled quantum evolutions. Here, the authors prove that the entanglement dynamics for such quantum dynamics is Markovian and introduce the entanglement feature formulation to describe entanglement dynamics with an imaginary-time Schr\"odinger equation. This work opens up new possibilities to apply the quantum many-body physics techniques to tackle the entanglement dynamics problem.
