Abstract

We show that the Ashkin-Teller model has Ising critical exponents, in the region where the model has two phase transitions. The proof follows from mapping the ground state of the time-continuous Ashkin-Teller Hamiltonian onto that of the Ising chain in a transverse field.

Two-layered Ising model with short-range two-spin interactions showing the critical behaviour of the Ashkin-Teller model

K Jungling

A two-layered Ising model is presented which maps to the Ashkin-Teller (AT) model (1943) for certain ratios of the two-spin couplings. Thus the model is able to exhibit the same critical exponents as the AT model, which are in general different from the usual Ising exponents; even continuous dependence of the critical exponents on the energy parameters is to be expected.

Critical exponents of the Ashkin-Teller model

J. R. Drugowich de Felício, R. Köberle

We show that the time-continuous Hamiltonian of the two-dimensional Ashkin-Teller model is that of a massive Thirring model. This implies the existence of an infinite number of conservation laws in the critical region and enables us to determine the critical exponents of the energy, crossover, and polarization operators.

Two phase transitions in triplet Ising models

Fa Yueh Wu

It is shown that the three-spin Ising model on a triangulated dice lattice is equivalent to an Ashkin-Teller model. It is concluded from the expected critical behaviour of the Ashkin-Teller model that the triplet model exhibits two phase transitions. Generalization of the consideration to other lattices and a suggestion on the possible order parameters associated with the transitions are given.

Phase diagram of the Ashkin-Teller quantum spin chain

Masanori Yamanaka, Yasuhiro Hatsugai, Mahito Kohmoto

We study a one-dimensional quantum Hamiltonian which is related to a highly anisotropic version of the two-dimensional Ashkin-Teller model. We explore the parameter region and complete its ground-state phase diagram. This problem is studied by using duality relations and by series expansions up to seventeenth order. Corresponding critical indices are also calculated. In this parameter region, a line of continuously varying critical indices is found.

Phase diagram of the N-colour Ashkin-Teller model

Marcio Jose Martins, J. R. Drugowich de Felício

The author shows that the two-dimensional N-colour Ashkin-Teller model exhibits an Ising-like continuous transition line in the region where the model has two phase transitions. The result is also valid for the antiferromagnetic ordering. In addition they present results which support the conjecture of Grest and Widom (1981) about the location of the disorder point.

Large-Nlimit of theXY-Ashkin-Teller model: solution in two dimensions

Giuseppe Gonnella, A. Lamura

We introduce a vector model coupled to an N -colour Ashkin-Teller model and solve its phase diagram in the large- N limit in two dimensions. It is shown that the transition line starts from the axis of Ising couplings with a behaviour which can be critical or first order depending on the strength of the four-spin coupling and of the coupling between spin and vector variables. Below a negative value of the four-spin coupling the transition is always continuous.
