Abstract

The chaotic ratchet effect for Bose–Einstein condensed atoms in an optical lattice is investigated. By using the direct perturbation method we obtain the chaotic solution of the condensed system. Theoretical analysis reveals that the transport of the condensed atoms in the ratchet potential is a chaotic one, and corresponding numerical results agree well with the theoretical results.

Stationary Classical Chaos of Trapped Two-Component Bose–Einstein Condensates in 1-D Optical Lattice Potentials

Jianshu Fang, Wing‐Ki Liu, Zhu Shan-Hua

We study the nonlinear dynamics of two-component Bose–Einstein condensates in one-dimensional periodic optical lattice potentials. The stationary state perturbation solutions of the coupled two-component nonlinear Schrödinger/Gross–Pitaevskii equations are constructed by using the direct perturbation method. Theoretical analysis revels that the perturbation solution is the chaotic one, which indicates the existence of chaos and chaotic region in parameter space. The corresponding numerical calculation results agree well with the analytical results. By applying the chaotic perturbation solution, we demonstrate the atomic spatial population and the energy distribution of the system are chaotic generally.

Spatial chaos of trapped Bose–Einstein condensate in one-dimensional weak optical lattice potential

Guishu Chong, Wenhua Hai, Qiongtao Xie

The spatially chaotic attractor in an elongated cloud of Bose-Einstein condensed atoms perturbed by a weak optical lattice potential is studied. The analytical insolvability and numerical incomputability of the atomic number density are revealed by a perturbed solution that illustrates the unpredictability of the deterministic chaos. Although this could lead the nonphysical explosion and unboundedness to the numerical solution, the theoretical analysis offers a criterion to avoid them. Moreover, the velocity field is investigated that exhibits the superfluid property of the chaotic system.

Quantum Ratchets in Dissipative Chaotic Systems

Gabriel G. Carlo, Giuliano Benenti, Giulio Casati +1 more

Using the method of quantum trajectories, we study a quantum chaotic dissipative ratchet appearing for particles in a pulsed asymmetric potential in the presence of a dissipative environment. The system is characterized by directed transport emerging from a quantum strange attractor. This model exhibits, in the limit of small effective Planck constant, a transition from quantum to classical behavior, in agreement with the correspondence principle. We also discuss parameter values suitable for the implementation of the quantum ratchet effect with cold atoms in optical lattices.

Stability of trapped Bose—Einstein condensates in one-dimensional tilted optical lattice potential

Jianshu Fang, Xiang-Ping Liao

Using the direct perturbation technique, this paper obtains a general perturbed solution of the Bose—Einstein condensates trapped in one-dimensional tilted optical lattice potential. We also gave out two necessary and sufficient conditions for boundedness of the perturbed solution. Theoretical analytical results and the corresponding numerical results show that the perturbed solution of the Bose-Einstein condensate system is unbounded in general and indicate that the Bose—Einstein condensates are Lyapunov-unstable. However, when the conditions for boundedness of the perturbed solution are satisfied, then the Bose-Einstein condensates are Lyapunov-stable.

Chaotic Synchronization of Bose-Einstein Condensed Body in Moving Optical Lattices

Zuolin Tian

Based on the nonlinear characteristics of Bose-Einstein condensed body in moving optical lattices and Lyapunov stability theory, and the combination with the sine coupling chaotic synchronization method, chaotic synchronization of Einstein condensed body in moving optical lattices was realized. With the help of theoretical analysis and numerical calculation, the authors proved the effectiveness of the method on the sine coupling chaotic synchronization and respectively realized the chaotic synchronization of the single variable coupling and double variable coupling. On the basis of the numerical calculation to determine the parameters range in which the chaotic synchronization can be realized,we proved that chaotic synchronization double variable coupling is faster than single variable coupling and small coupling coefficient can achieve chaotic synchronization. We also analysed the relationship between the synchronization time and the coupling coefficient.
