Ideal Relativistic Bose Condensation

Abstract

The condensation temperature and the specific-heat anomaly of an ideal relativistic Bose gas are discussed. For a high concentration of bosons with small rest mass there is a marked departure from the normal nonrelativistic theory. The heat capacity ${C}_{v}$ remains continuous at the condensation temperature unless the rest mass vanishes.

Bose-Einstein Condensation in the Relativistic Ideal Bose Gas

M. Grether, MANUEL DE LLANO, George Allen Baker Jr.

The Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) critical temperature in a relativistic ideal Bose gas of identical bosons, with and without the antibosons expected to be pair-produced abundantly at sufficiently hot temperatures, is exactly calculated for all boson number densities, all boson point rest masses, and all temperatures. The Helmholtz free energy at the critical BEC temperature is lower with antibosons, thus implying that omitting antibosons always leads to the computation of a metastable state.

Analysis of Bose-Einstein condensation for an ideal relativistic Bose gas in d dimensions

Ralf Beckmann, F. Karsch, David E. Miller

We investigate the conditions for Bose-Einstein condensation of an ideal relativistic Bose gas in various spatial dimensions. From the direct numerical evaluations of the equations for the density and the specific-heat anomaly, we are able to show the qualitative difference between the massive and massless relativistic systems. As a consequence we are able to discuss the dependence of the critical exponents upon the spatial dimensionality for this system.

Bose–Einstein condensation of a relativistic Bose gas trapped in a general external potential

Guozhen Su, Jincan Chen, Lixuan Chen

Bose–Einstein condensation of an ideal relativistic Bose gas trapped in a generic power-law potential is investigated. The analytical expressions for some important parameters such as the critical temperature, ground-state fraction and heat capacity are derived. The general criteria on the occurrence of Bose–Einstein condensation and the discontinuity of heat capacity at the critical temperature are obtained. The results obtained here present a unified description for the Bose–Einstein condensation of a class of ideal Bose systems so that many important conclusions in the literature are included in this paper.

Bose-Einstein condensation in an Einstein universe

M. B. Altaie

The condensation of a non-relativistic ideal Bose gas in an Einstein universe is investigated. Explicit expressions for the condensate fraction N 0 /N and the specific heat are obtained by using the Poisson summation formula to express the summations as integrations plus corrections. It is shown that the finiteness of the system smoothes out the cusp-like singularity of the infinite system. A rigorous asymptotic analysis of the critical temperature and the specific heat maximum are given, and the relation with the scaling theory of finite size effects is briefly discussed.

Relativisticd-dimensional ideal Bose gas with pair creation

H.O. Frota, Melquisedech S. Silva, S. Goulart Rosa

The thermodynamic properties of a d-dimensional relativistic Bose gas mixture of particles and antiparticles are studied. The anomaly in the specific heat of the relativistic gas is removed by the pair-creation mechanism. The crossover from the nonrelativistic limit to the ultrarelativistic limit is also analyzed.

Thermodynamic properties of a trapped relativistic Bose gas with pair production

Guozhen Su, Liwei Chen, Jincan Chen

An ideal gas of relativistic bosons trapped in a D -dimensional power-law potential is explored, where the possibility of particle–antiparticle pair production is taken into account. Expressions for several important parameters, such as the critical temperature of Bose–Einstein condensation (BEC), ground-state fraction and heat capacity, are analytically derived and used to discuss the relevant properties of the system. An important parameter χ is introduced to mark the extent of the relativistic effects on the characteristics of BEC. It is found that the correction of the critical temperature due to the relativistic effects is considerable for the system with a large parameter χ. It is more important to show that the pair production may lead to several novel characteristics for a relativistic Bose gas, such as the high temperature BEC, the rapid increase of the heat capacity at high temperatures and the disappearance of the anomaly of the heat capacity at the critical temperature in the ultrarelativistic limit.
