Abstract

This paper investigates the physical layer security issue of the three-phase two-way relaying system with an untrusty relay node. New cooperative jamming schemes are proposed for the three-phase bi-directional secrecy communications. The transmit power of each source node is divided into two parts corresponding to the user and jamming signals, respectively. The minimum jamming signal power at each source node is analyzed. An iterative power allocation algorithm is proposed for the three-phase protocol. Numerical results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed cooperative jamming scheme with power allocation.

Cooperative jamming and power allocation in three-phase two-way relaying wiretap systems

Hang Long, Wei Xiang, Jing Wang +2 more

The security of the three-phase two-way relaying system with an eavesdropper is investigated in this paper. A cooperative jamming and power allocation scheme is proposed to enhance the system secrecy capacity. When a source node transmits user signals to the relay node, the other source node interferes the relay node with pre-defined jamming signals simultaneously. Optimum power allocation between the user and jamming signals at each source node is analyzed. Our analytical results suggest that the proposed cooperative jamming scheme improves on the system secrecy capacity, especially when the channel gains of the two source-relay links are of large difference. Simulation results in close agreement with analytical results clearly demonstrate the advantage of the proposed cooperative jamming scheme.

Cooperative jamming and power allocation with untrusty two‐way relay nodes

Hang Long, Wei Xiang, Jing Wang +2 more

This study investigates the security of the two‐way relaying system with untrusty relay nodes. Cooperative jamming schemes are considered for bi‐directional secrecy communications. The transmit power of each source node is divided into two parts corresponding to the user and jamming signals, respectively. Two different assumptions of the jamming signals are considered. When the jamming signals are a priori known at the two source nodes, closed‐form power allocation expressions at two source nodes are derived. Under the assumption of unknown jamming signals, it is proven that the cooperative jamming is useless for the system secrecy capacity, because that all the power should be allocated to the user signals at each source node. Relay selection is also investigated based on the analysis of cooperative jamming. Simulation results are presented to compare the system secrecy capacities under the two jamming signal assumptions.

Physical layer security for cooperative communication system with untrusted relay based on jamming signals

Qianqian Zhang, Yuanyuan Gao, Guozhen Zang +2 more

This paper investigates the cooperative communication system with untrusted relay using the new scheme that the source transmits the jamming signals and the source signals at the same time. We exploit greedy power allocation algorithm to divide the source power to ensure maximum secrecy capacity. Besides, we analyze the situation that external eavesdropper and untrusted relay exist at the same time. At the end of the paper, BPSK modulation and demodulation scheme is given as an example, and SER is used to estimate the performance of the system. The simulation results show that the scheme can resist both internal and external eavesdropping nodes.

Three-phase Cooperative Jamming Based Improving PHY Security for Multicast Network with an Untrusted Relay

Xingqun Fu, An Li, Panagiotis G. Sarigiannidis

In this paper, a multicast network in the presence of an untrusted relay is investigated.A three-phase AF-based cooperative jamming with power allocation is proposed to enhance the system secrecy rate.Based on time division based cooperative multicast (TDCM) protocol, the source uses part of its available power to broadcast pre-defined jamming signals in order to create interference at the untrusted relay, while the relay amplifies the linearly combined two received signals and then re-transmits it to the destination.Optimum power allocation policy involving the allocation between the information and jamming signals at the source and between two combined signal factors at the relay to maximize the achievable worse secrecy rate or sum-rate are derived and analyzed.Numerical results are provided to demonstrate our analytical results and reveal that compared with the two benchmarks schemes, the proposed scheme can obtain significantly higher positive secrecy rate for the same transmit power budget, especially in the case of maximizing secrecy sum-rate.

Two-phase cooperative jamming and beamforming for physical layer secrecy

Mohammad Hatami, Mojtaba Jahandideh, Hamid Behroozi

The broadcast nature of wireless communications makes the propagation medium vulnerable to security attacks such as eavesdropping and jamming from adversarial or unauthorized users. Applying physical layer secrecy approaches will enable the exchange of confidential messages over a wireless medium in the presence of unauthorized eavesdroppers, without using any secret keys. However, physical layer security approaches are typically feasible only when the source-eavesdropper channel is weaker than the source-destination channel. Cooperative jamming can be used to overcome this challenge and increase the secrecy rate. In this paper, the security of two-phase relaying system with multiple intermediate nodes and in the presence of an eavesdropper is investigated. To enhance the system secrecy rate, a joint cooperative beamforming and jamming combined with relay and jammer selections is proposed. In phase I, the source node broadcasts a signal to relays while three intermediate nodes (which act as jammers) help the source node by transmitting random jamming signals to confuse the eavesdropper. Since the friendly (cooperative) jammers create interference for both the intended relays and the eavesdropper, optimal beamforming is applied such that no interference is caused at two preselected desired relays (that are going to receive the confidential massage in phase I). In phase II, two preselected relays transmit the source message with beamforming coefficients such that the received signal at the eavesdropper is completely nulled out. Our goal in this paper is to minimize the received SNR at the eavesdropper while increasing it at the destination as much as possible by applying different methods such as cooperative beamforming, cooperative jamming and relay selection. To avoid operational complexity, we consider the minimum number of intermediate nodes that are necessary without losing the performance. Numerical results demonstrate the advantage of our proposed scheme compared with the scheme with no cooperative jamming.
