Ab initiocalculation of Feshbach resonances in cold atomic collisions: s - and p -wave Feshbach resonances in L6i2

Abstract

We present a model applicable to cold diatomic collisions and solve the close-coupled equations for the particular ${^{6}\text{L}\text{i}}_{2}$ system. Feshbach resonances are determined ab initio for both $s$ and $p$ waves. The $s$-wave scattering lengths are reported for all possible hyperfine states as a function of magnetic field strengths between 0 and 1500 G. In addition, $p$-wave scattering lengths are calculated for selected hyperfine states. Matrix elements for the hyperfine, Zeeman, and rotational Hamiltonian were worked out by the use of the molecular Hund's case (a) basis set. All relevant matrix elements are reported. The short-range hyperfine interaction has been included in the calculations, and its effect on the scattering length are investigated. Hyperfine parameters were obtained from separate ab initio calculations.

Feshbach resonances and transition rates for cold homonuclear collisions between K39 and K41 atoms

Marius Lysebo, Leif Veseth

We report results from close-coupling calculations for homonuclear ultracold collisions between potassium atoms, using the most up-to-date Born-Oppenheimer potential curves. The present study includes both of the bosonic isotopes $^{39}\mathrm{K}$ and $^{41}\mathrm{K}$. The $s$-wave scattering lengths as functions of the magnetic field strength for collisions between atoms in identical and different hyperfine states are obtained. Several Feshbach resonances are located and characterized for both isotopes. Comparison with experiments, where such data are available, show excellent agreement. We also study weakly bound molecular states of the ${\mathrm{K}}_{2}$ molecule in close relation to the calculated Feshbach resonances. Another objective of the present work is to study inelastic collisions in which the hyperfine states of the colliding atoms are changed. From this type of calculation we obtain transition rates as functions of the magnetic field strength. Finally, we discuss how such transition rates might be of importance for experimental work.

Elastic and inelastic collisions of 6Li atoms in magnetic and optical traps

M. Houbiers, Henk T. C. Stoof, W. I. McAlexander +1 more

We use a full coupled-channels method to calculate collisional properties of magnetically or optically trapped ultracold ${}^{6}\mathrm{Li}.$ The magnetic-field dependence of the $s$-wave scattering lengths of several mixtures of hyperfine states are determined, as are the decay rates due to exchange collisions. In one case, we find Feshbach resonances at $B=0.08\mathrm{T}$ and $B=1.98\mathrm{T}.$ We show that the exact coupled-channels calculation is well approximated over the entire range of magnetic fields by a simple analytical calculation.

Determination of collisional properties of cold Na atoms from analysis of bound-state photoassociation and Feshbach resonance field data

Frank A. van Abeelen, BOUDEWIJN J. VERHAAR

We review the information on the interactions between cold ground-state Na atoms following from ${\mathrm{Na}}_{2}$ bound states, a Na photoassociation experiment, and a recent observation of field-induced Feshbach resonances in a Na Bose condensate. We obtain a set of Na interaction parameters that is in excellent agreement with all these experimental data. The existing discrepancy between different values for the scattering length ${a}_{1,\ensuremath{-}1}$ of Na atoms in the $|1,\ensuremath{-}1〉$ hyperfine state is resolved. The present interaction parameters enable us to give accurate predictions for the singlet and triplet scattering lengths ${a}_{S}$ and ${a}_{T},$ ${a}_{1,\ensuremath{-}1},$ scattering lengths for collisions between Na atoms in other hyperfine states, and resonance fields of several yet unobserved Feshbach resonances. We find ${a}_{S}=(19.1\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}{2.1)a}_{0},{a}_{T}=(65.3\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}{0.9)a}_{0},$ and ${a}_{1,\ensuremath{-}1}(B=0)=(55.4\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}{1.2)a}_{0}.$

Determination of Cs-Cs Interaction Parameters Using Feshbach Spectroscopy (Preprint)

Andrew J. Kerman, Cheng Chin, Vladan Vuletić +4 more

Abstract : We measure high-resolution Feshbach resonance spectra for ultracold desium atoms colliding in different hyperfine and magnetic sublevels. More than 25 Feshback resonances are observed for magnetic fields below 230 G in the elastic and inelastic ground state collision cross sections, as well as in the cross section for light-assisted collisions. From thes spectra a consistent set of ground state molecular interaction parameters for desium is extracted, including singlet and triplet scattering lengths of As=(280 +/- 10)a) and At=(2400 +/- 100)a), a van der Waals coefficient C6=(6890 +/- 35) a.u., as well as the strength of the indirect spin-spin coupling. This set of parameters allows for the first time a complet characterisation of cesium's ultra-cold collision properties.

Ab initio calculation of the spectrum of Feshbach resonances in NaLi + Na collisions

Tijs Karman, Marcin Gronowski, Michał Tomza +5 more

We present a combined experimental and theoretical study of the spectrum of magnetically tunable Feshbach resonances in NaLi $({a}^{3}{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}}^{+})\phantom{\rule{4pt}{0ex}}+$ Na collisions. In the accompanying paper, J. J. Park, H. Son, Y.-K. Lu, T. Karman, M. Gronowski, M. Tomza, A. O. Jamison, and W. Ketterle, Phys. Rev. X 13, 031018 (2023), we observe experimentally 8 and 17 resonances occurring between $B=0$ and 1400 G in upper and lower spin-stretched states, respectively. Here, we perform ab initio calculations of the NaLi $+$ Na interaction potential and describe in detail the coupled-channel scattering calculations of the Feshbach resonance spectrum. The positions of the resonances cannot be predicted with realistic uncertainty in the state-of-the-art ab initio potential, but our calculations yield a typical number of resonances that is in near-quantitative agreement with experiment. We show that the main coupling mechanism results from spin-rotation and spin-spin couplings in combination with the anisotropic atom-molecule interaction. The calculations furthermore explain the qualitative difference between the numbers of resonances in either spin state.

Long-range states and Feshbach resonances in collisions between ultracold alkali-metal diatomic molecules and atoms

Matthew D. Frye, Jeremy M. Hutson

We consider the long-range states expected for complexes formed from an alkali-metal diatomic molecule in a singlet state and an alkali-metal atom. We explore the structure of the Hamiltonian for such systems, and the couplings between the six angular momenta that are present. We consider the patterns and densities of the long-range states, and the terms in the Hamiltonian that can cause Feshbach resonances when the states cross threshold as a function of magnetic field. We present a case study of $^{40}\mathrm{K}^{87}\mathrm{Rb}+^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$. We show multiple types of resonance due to long-range states with rotational and/or hyperfine excitation, and consider the likelihood of them existing at low to moderate magnetic fields.
