Abstract

We use polarization tomography to demonstrate for the first time entanglement between photon pairs from the biexciton radiative cascade. The entangled pair violates Bellpsilas inequality and satisfies Peres criterion by more than 3 standards deviations of the experimental uncertainty.

Entangled Photon Pairs from Semiconductor Quantum Dots

Tomographic analysis demonstrates that the polarization state of pairs of photons emitted from a biexciton decay cascade becomes entangled when spectral filtering is applied. The measured density matrix of the photon pair satisfies the Peres criterion for entanglement by more than 3 standard deviations of the experimental uncertainty and violates Bell's inequality. We show that the spectral filtering erases the "which path" information contained in the photons' color and that the remanent information in the quantum dot degrees of freedom is negligible.

Entangled photon pairs from radiative cascades in semiconductor quantum dots

Nika Akopian, Netanel H. Lindner, Eilon Poem +5 more

Abstract Entangled photon pairs are emitted from a biexciton decay cascade of single quantum dots when spectral filtering is applied. We show this by experimentally measuring the density matrix of the polarization state of the photon pair emitted from a continuously pumped quantum dot. The matrix clearly satisfies the Peres criterion for entanglement. By applying in addition a temporal window, the quantum dot becomes an entangled light source. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. The polarization state of pairs of photons resulting from the biexciton decay cascade becomes entangled when spectral filtering is applied. The phase in the density matrix is shown to result from the spectral filtering process.

On-demand source of maximally entangled photon pairs using the biexciton-exciton radiative cascade

Roni Winik, Dan Cogan, Yaroslav Don +7 more

We perform full time-resolved tomographic measurements of the polarization state of pairs of photons emitted during the radiative cascade of the confined biexciton in a semiconductor quantum dot. The biexciton was deterministically initiated using a $\ensuremath{\pi}$-area pulse into the biexciton two-photon absorption resonance. Our measurements demonstrate that the polarization states of the emitted photon pair are maximally entangled. We show that the measured degree of entanglement depends solely on the temporal resolution by which the time difference between the emissions of the photon pair is determined. A route for fabricating an on-demand source of maximally polarization entangled photon pairs is thereby provided.

Temporal CW polarization-tomography of photon pairs from the biexciton radiative cascade: Theory and experiment

Noam Tur, Ismail M. Nassar, Ido Schwartz +4 more

We study, experimentally and theoretically, temporal correlations between the polarization of photon pairs emitted during the biexciton-exciton radiative cascade from a single semiconductor quantum dot, optically excited by a continuous-wave light source. The system is modeled by a Lindbladian coupled to two Markovian baths: One bath represents the continuous light source, and a second represents the emitted radiation. Very good agreement is obtained between the theoretical model that we constructed and a set of 36 different time-resolved, polarization correlation measurements between cascading photon pairs.
