Transparent propagation of few-cycle laser pulses with arbitrary intensity in double-lambda atomic systems

Li Deng, Yueping Niu, Shangqing Gong

A numerical study is reported of the transparent propagation of few-cycle laser pulses with arbitrary intensity. The phenomenon is based on the preparation of steady maximum coherent superposition state of the lower two levels in double-lambda atomic systems. The transparency of the few-cycle pulse is sensitive to its parameters such as the arriving time and relative phase. The advantages of the method are discussed.

Probe gain via four-wave mixing based on spontaneously generated coherence

Hong Wei Yang, Ting-Gui Zhang, Yan Zhang

We have studied the probe gain via a double-Λ atomic system with a pair of closely lying lower levels in the presence of two probe and two coherent pump fields. The inversionless gain can be realized by using nondegenerate four-wave mixing under the condition of spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) owing to near-degenerate lower levels. Note that by using SGC, two probe fields can be amplified with more remarkable amplitudes, and the gain spectra of an extremely narrow linewidth can be obtained. Last but not least, our results show that the probe gain is quite sensitive to relative phases due to the SGC presence which allows one to modulate the gain spectra periodically by phase modulation, and can also be influenced by all laser field intensities and frequencies, and the angles between dipole elements.

Phase-sensitive microwave optical double resonance in an N system

T. M. Preethi, M. Manukumara, K. Asha +3 more

\n An experimental investigation of a Microwave Optical Double Resonance (MODR) phenomenon is carried out in a four level N system of 85Rb atoms, at room temperature. This N system consists of a closed three level Λ subsystem irradiated with two optical fields and one microwave field. The MODR response is investigated in a separate probe field which drives a resonant transition from one of the ground states of the Λ system to a fourth level. We find that, under two-photon resonance condition for the optical fields, the MODR becomes a function of the relative phase between the beat frequency envelop of the optical fields and the microwave field. The variation in MODR is shown to be correlated with the phase-sensitive variation of the EIT phenomenon seen in such microwave-connected closed Λ systems. We envisage that this phase-sensitive variation in the MODR, can be utilized for a phase-sensitive manipulation of non-linear optical phenomena in N systems.\n
