Abstract

Based on the solution to the master equation of the density operator describing the amplitude dissipative channel, we derive the time evolution law of the coarse-graining-smoothed Wigner operator in this channel, which demonstrates how an initial pure state evolves into a mixed state, exhibiting decoherence.

Evolution of a two-mode squeezed vacuum in the amplitude dissipative channel

Nian-Quan Jiang, 范洪义, 席留生 +2 more

For the first time we derive the dissipating result of an initial two-mode squeezed pure vacuum state passing through a two-mode amplitude dissipative channel described by the direct product of two independent single-mode master equations. Although these two master equations do not mix the two modes (there is no coupling between them), since the two-mode squeezed state is simultaneously an entangled state, the final state which emerges from passing this channel is a two-mode mixed density operator. The compact expression of the outcoming state is obtained, which manifestly shows that as time evolves, the squeezing effect decreases.

Evolution of Number State to Density Operator of Binomial Distribution in the Amplitude Dissipative Channel

Fan Hong‐Yi, Gang Ren

We show that passing through the amplitude dissipative channel the initial pure number state density operator is evolved into the density operator of binomial distribution (a mixed state), and the binomial distribution parameter is just equal to e −2 kt , where k is the dissipative parameter of the channel. We solve the corresponding master equation to obtain the operator-sum representation of the density operator by virtue of the entangled state representation, which seems to be a convenient approach.

Evolution of the single-mode squeezed vacuum state in amplitude dissipative channel

Hong-Yi Fan, Shuai Wang, Liyun Hu

Using the way of deriving infinitive sum representation of density operator as a solution to the master equation describing the amplitude dissipative channel by virtue of the entangled state representation, we show manifestly how the initial density operator of a single-mode squeezed vacuum state evolves into a definite mixed state which turns out to be a squeezed chaotic state with decreasing-squeezing and decoherence. We investigate average photon number, photon statistics distributions for this mixed state.

Decoherence in a driven three-level system

A. R. P. Rau, Weichang Zhao

Dissipation and decoherence, and the evolution from pure to mixed states in quantum physics, are handled through master equations for the density matrix. Master equations such as the Lindblad equation preserve the trace of this matrix. Viewing them as first-order time-dependent operator equations for the elements of the density matrix, a unitary integration procedure can be adapted to solve for these elements. A simple model for decoherence preserves the Hermiticity of the density matrix. A single, classical Riccati equation is the only one requiring numerical handling to obtain a full solution of the quantum evolution. The procedure is general, valid for any number of levels, but is illustrated here for a three-level system with two driving fields. For various choices of the initial state, we study the evolution of the system as a function of the amplitudes, relative frequencies, and phases of the driven fields and of the strength of the decoherence. The monotonic growth of the entropy is followed as the system evolves from a pure to a mixed state. An example is provided by the $n=3$ states of the hydrogen atom in a time-dependent electric field, such degenerate manifolds affording an analytical solution.

Embedding Dissipation and Decoherence in Unitary Evolution Schemes

A. R. P. Rau, R. A. Wendell

Dissipation and decoherence, and the evolution from pure to mixed states in quantum physics, are handled through master equations for the density matrix. By embedding elements of this matrix in a higher-dimensional Liouville-Bloch equation, the methods of unitary integration are adapted to solve for the density matrix as a function of time, including the nonunitary effects of dissipation and decoherence. The input requires only solutions of classical, initial value time-dependent equations. Results are illustrated for a damped, driven two-level system.

Time evolution law of Wigner operator in diffusion channel

Ke Zhang, Lanlan Li, Gang Ren +2 more

As is well known, the evolution of quantum state can be replaced by its Wigner function’s time evolution. The Wigner function of a quantum state is the same as the density matrix of a quantum state, because they both contain many messages, such as the probability distribution and phases. Thus, the important information about the quantum state in the evolution process can be obtained more quickly and effectively by studying the Wigner function of a quantum state. In this paper, based on the classical diffusion equation, the diffusion equation of the quantum state density operator is derived by using the P representation of the density operator. Furthermore, by introducing the Weyl ordering symbol of the quantum operator, the corresponding Weyl quantization scheme is given. In addition, the evolution equation of Wigner operator in diffusion channel is established by using another phase space representation of density operator—Wigner function, and the solution form of Wigner operator is given. In this paper, we derive the evolution law of Wigner operator in quantum diffusion channel for the first time, that is, the form of Wigner operator at any time in the evolution process. Based on this conclusion, the evolution of coherent states through quantum diffusion channels is discussed.
