We show that the set of s-parametrized quasiprobability distribution functions corresponding to an electromagnetic field in a cavity subject to dissipation can be directly measured. Such distributions contain whole information of the quantum state, therefore making it possible to recover information after losses have occurred.
We present a scheme to reconstruct the quantum state of a field preparedinside a lossy cavity at finite temperature. Quantum coherences are normallydestroyed by the interaction with an environment, but we show that it ispossible to recover complete information about the initial state (beforeinteraction with its environment), making possible to reconstruct anys-parametrized quasiprobability distribution, in particular, the Wignerfunction.
In this letter, a procedure is proposed for reconstructing the motional quantum state of N trapped ions. Unlike other previous schemes, the present scheme works in the dispersive regime in the presence of dissipation. In our scheme, we show that it is possible to directly measure the quasiprobability distribution function corresponding to the motional coherent state in a trapped-ion system subjected to dissipation. We also provide an example of a motional Schrödinger cat state reconstruction to exemplify our procedure.
