Advanced Quantum Mechanics of Light

James K. Freericks

We continue our exploration of light to examine more advanced ideas. This includes interaction-free experiments that can see something without having even a single photon interact with it. We introduce the polarization of light and how we can manipulate it both in a Mach-Zehnder interferometer and in a quantum-seeing-in-the-dark experiment. We also discuss the Hong-Ou-Mandel experiment, which shows that identical photons are indistinguishable via a phenomenon called photon bunching.
