Solvable model of a double quantum electron layer in a magnetic field

Abstract

A solvable model of a double quantum electron layer in a magnetic field based on the theory of self-adjoint extensions of symmetric operators is suggested. The spectral problem reduces to a finite-dimensional one through the use of harmonic analysis on a magnetic translations group. Properties of a gap between symmetric and antisymmetric states are discussed. The model gives a linear dependence of spectral parameters on a magnetic field B.

Self-adjoint Schrodinger and Dirac operators with Aharonov-Bohm and magnetic-solenoid fields

Dmitri M Gitman, Andrei Smirnov, Igor Viktorovich Tyutin +1 more

We study all the s.a. Schrodinger and Dirac operators (Hamiltonians) both with pure AB field and with magnetic-solenoid field. Then, we perform a complete spectral analysis for these operators, which includes finding spectra and spectral decompositions, or inversion formulas. In constructing the Hamiltonians and performing their spectral analysis, we respectively follow the von Neumann theory of s.a. extensions of symmetric differential operators and the Krein method of guiding functionals. The examples of similar consideration are given by us in arXiv:0903.5277, where a nonrelativistic particle in the Calogero potential field is considered and in Theor. Math. Phys. 150 (1) (2007) 34, where a Dirac particle in the Coulomb field of arbitrary charge is considered. However, due to peculiarities of the three-dimensional problems under consideration, we elaborated a generalization of the approach used in the study of the Dirac particle.

Magnetic perturbations of anyonic and Aharonov–Bohm Schrödinger operators

Michele Correggi, Davide Fermi

We study the Hamiltonian describing two anyons moving in a plane in the presence of an external magnetic field and identify a one-parameter family of self-adjoint realizations of the corresponding Schrödinger operator. We also discuss the associated model describing a quantum particle immersed in a magnetic field with a local Aharonov–Bohm singularity. For a special class of magnetic potentials, we provide a complete classification of all possible self-adjoint extensions.

A model of an electron in a quantum graph interacting with a two-level system

Anton A. Boitsev, I. Yu. Popov

A model of an electron in a quantum graph interacting with a two-level system is considered. The operator describing the model has the form of sum of tensor products.Self-adjoint extensions and a scattering matrix are written in terms of a boundary triplet, corresponding to the considered symmetric operator.Diagrams of reflection are calculated and numerical results are discussed .

A pragmatic approach to the problem of the self-adjoint extension of Hamilton operators with the Aharonov-Bohm potential

Jürgen Audretsch, Ulf Jasper, Vladimir D. Skarzhinsky

We consider the problem of the self-adjoint extension of Hamilton operators for charged quantum particles in the pure Aharonov-Bohm potential (infinitely thin solenoid). We present a pragmatic approach to the problem based on the orthogonalization of the radial solutions for different quantum numbers. Then we discuss a model of a scalar particle with a magnetic moment which allows us to explain why the self-adjoint extension contains arbitrary parameters and give a physical interpretation.

On the two-dimensional time-dependent anisotropic harmonic oscillator in a magnetic field

Pinaki Patra

A charged harmonic oscillator in a magnetic field, Landau problems, and an oscillator in a noncommutative space share the same mathematical structure in their Hamiltonians. We have considered a two-dimensional anisotropic harmonic oscillator with arbitrarily time-dependent parameters (effective mass and frequencies), placed in an arbitrarily time-dependent magnetic field. A class of quadratic invariant operators (in the sense of Lewis and Riesenfeld) have been constructed. The invariant operators (Î) have been reduced to a simplified representative form by a linear canonical transformation [the group Sp(4,R)]. An orthonormal basis of the Hilbert space consisting of the eigenvectors of Î is obtained. In order to obtain the solutions of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation corresponding to the system, both the geometric and dynamical phase-factors are constructed. A generalized Peres–Horodecki separability criterion (Simon’s criterion) for the ground state corresponding to our system has been demonstrated.

Spectral properties of a hybrid-qubit model based on a two-dimensional quantum dot

Alba Y. Ramos, Omar Osenda

The design and study of hybrid qubits is driven by their ability to get along the best of charge qubits and of spin qubits, {\em i.e.} the speed of operation of the former and the very slow decoherence rates of the latter ones. There are several proposals to implement hybrid qubits, this works focuses on the spectral properties of an one-electron hybrid qubit. By design, the information would be stored in the electronic spin and the switching between the qubit basis states would be achieved using an external ac electric field. The electron is confined in a two-dimensional quantum dot, whose confining potential is given by a quartic potential, features that are typical of GaAS quantum dots. Besides the confining potential that characterizes the quantum dot there are two static magnetic fields applied to the system, one is a large constant Zeeman field and the other one has a constant gradient. We study the spectral properties of the model Hamiltonian, a Scrödinger-Pauli Hamiltonian with realistic parameters, using the Ritz method. In particular, we look for regions of the parameter space where the lowest eigenenergies and their eigenfunctions allow to define a qubit which is stable under perturbations to the design parameters. We put special attention to the constraints that the design imposes over the magnetic fields, the tuning of the energy gap between the qubit states and the expectation value of the spin operator where the information would be stored.
