Impossibility of steady squeezing for two-mode linear system without self-action

Abstract

A solution for the problem of the time evolution of quadrature component variances has been obtained for the two-mode system with the two-boson interaction. As a result, the impossibility of steady squeezing is strictly established. Comparison with the single-mode model shows that the possibility of steady squeezing is due solely to self-action within the modes which is absent for the model considered. Thus, there cannot be cross-over between the model considered and the single-mode model.

Steady squeezing in two-mode system

Eugene K. Bashkirov, O. I. Kurganova

Initial conditions corresponding to the stationary evolution of a two-mode two-boson model with interaction between modes and self- action in one of them have been considered. On this basis the possibility of the steady squeezing for both Bose fields has been established. The estimations of the squeezing parameters have been obtained.

Quantum limits on squeezing

Xin Zhou, Francesco Massel

In our work, we show how, for a network of bosonic modes, canonical commutation relations constrain the coefficients relating input and internal modes. Based on these constraints, we derive a lower bound on the total steady-state squeezing achievable in reservoir-engineered (dissipative) squeezing schemes, quantified by the sum of mode-optimal quadrature variances normalized to its corresponding input variance. The bound follows solely from canonical commutation relations and stability, and is saturated in the strong-coupling limit at 1. Furthermore, we show that adding independent parametric driving terms for each mode changes the quantum noise-gain balance and yields a distinct optimum bound, approaching 1/2. In addition, we show how these constraints allow us to reformulate the Duan inseparability criterion for a three-mode bosonic system in terms of a single parameter-dependent figure of merit. Our results apply directly to current electromechanical and nanomechanical experiments and indicate that the two-mode bounds can be experimentally approached even at room temperature.

A REAPPRAISAL OF TWO-MODE SQUEEZING AND INTERMODE COUPLING

Bijan Kumar Bagchi, Debajyoti Bhaumik

We study two-mode squeezing in the framework of generalized quantum condition and derive pedagogically the result that the two-mode squeezed state is factorizable in terms of the component single modes. We also examine the related problem of two-mode squeezing in the system of a pair of coupled oscillators and consider the effects of a sudden switching-on of the intermode coupling for these quadrature modes.

Time evolution of interacting bosons through squeezing Hamiltonians

Chester Moore, David Edward Bruschi

We study the full time evolution of one- and two-mode bosonic quantum systems that interact through single- and two-mode squeezing Hamiltonians. We establish that the single- and two-mode cases are formally equivalent, leading to the same differential equations encoding the full time evolution. These differential equations can be easily employed in any application. We analytically predict a dramatic transition in the population of the modes when the coupling takes a specific critical value, leading to exponential growth of the excitation population. We discuss the validity, scope and generality of our results.

Quantum properties of kerr nonlinear directional couplers via phase-space representation / Rafael Julius

Rafael Julius

Quantum statistical properties of interacting optical fields in Kerr nonlinear couplers may be regarded as one of the most fundamental problems yet to be solved in quantum optics. As an analytical solution to this system is not always possible, a semi-analytic or direct numerical solution must be employed in order to obtain a more complete description of their evolution. This study investigates the quantum properties of four-mode couplers composed of two and four Kerr nonlinear waveguides, both with and without cavity set up via phase space representation. In these systems, the electromagnetic fields are described by their Hamiltonians, while the time-evolution of the systems are described by the Von-Neumann equation. Following standard techniques, the master equations for the density matrices of the systems are obtained and further converted to the corresponding classical Fokker- Planck equations using both positive P and Wigner representations. The corresponding set of Langevin Stochastic equations is then obtained from the Fokker-Planck equations by means of Ito rules. Finally, the systems are integrated numerically and averaged over many trajectories to get the relevant information. The effects of self-action nonlinearity, cross-action coupling and the initial energy of the coherent light on the evolution of the field quadrature variances are investigated. Furthermore, the influences of multimode interaction on the dynamics of the squeezed states are discussed. In this research, we show that the system may produce squeezed states in both quadrature variances for all calculated parameters. The multimode two channel model can provide better squeezing in contrast to the conventional device. The amplitude oscillation of maximal squeezing may be amplified by manipulation of the initial state of the coherent light in the first mode, and the range may be extended through multimode interaction. When the model is contained in a cavity, the system is able to generate better amplitude oscillations and squeezing range with leaf-revival-collapse-like behaviour; with the whole oscillation able to evolute below the standard quantum limit Regular photon transition and self trapping effects of the interacting modes in the four channels model are simulated, and squeezing is predicted for various initial intensities of the coherent field and nonlinear coupling parameter g. The cavity setup caused the system to undergo fluctuation amplification and the potential for different types of squeezing to be generated is observed. Depending on how we choose the interaction parameter values, the system may generate better squeezing in comparison to the cavity-less model.

TIME EVOLUTION OF VARIANCES OF QUADRATURE OPERATORS IN A TWO-MODE BOSON SYSTEM

Alexei Vladimirovich Chizhov, R. G. Nazmitdinov

A two-mode boson system described by a Hamiltonian containing a nonlinear interaction of a general enough form is investigated. Nontrivial effects concerning a transition of a coherent state to a squeezed state and vice versa in the process of evolution of that system are revealed.
