The classical and quantum position-dependent mass harmonic oscillators are constructed by means of the supersymmetric approach. The correspondence between the classical and the quantum Hamiltonians is used to fix the ordering of the kinetic term in the quantum framework. Some examples are given for different types of mass function.
We recycle Cruz et al.'s (Phys. Lett. A 369 (2007) 400) work on the classical and quantum position-dependent mass (PDM) oscillators. To elaborate on the ordering ambiguity, we properly amend some of the results reported in their work and discuss the classical and quantum mechanical correspondence for the PDM harmonic oscillators. We use a point canonical transformation and show that one unique quantum PDM oscillator Hamiltonian (consequently, one unique ordering-ambiguity parametric set j=l=-1/4 and k=-1/2) is obtained. To show that such a parametric set is not just a manifestation of the quantum PDM oscillator Hamiltonian, we consider the classical and quantum mechanical correspondence for quasi-free PDM particles moving under the influence of their own PDM force fields.
The study of physical systems endowed with a position-dependent mass (PDM) remains a fundamental issue of quantum mechanics. In this paper we use a new approach, recently developed by us for building the quantum kinetic energy operator (KEO) within the Schrodinger equation, in order to construct a new class of exactly solvable models with a position varying mass, presenting a harmonic-oscillator-like spectrum. To do so we utilize the formalism of supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SUSY QM) along with the shape invariance condition. Recent outcomes of non-Hermitian quantum mechanics are also taken into account.
We consider the application of the supersymmetric quantum-mechanical formalism to the Schr\"odinger equation describing a particle characterized by a position-dependent effective mass m(x). We show that any one-dimensional quantum system with effective mass has a supersymmetric partner system characterized by the same position dependence of the mass, but with a new potential function. The form of this supersymmetric partner potential V2(x) depends on both the form of the original potential V1(x) and the form of the mass x dependence. We also generalize the concept of shape invariance to the nonconstant mass scenario. As illustrative examples we provide, for a given form m(x) of the effective mass, shape-invariant potentials exhibiting (a) harmonic-oscillator-like spectra and (b) Morse-like spectra. In both cases the energy eigenvalues and eigenfunctions can be obtained in algebraic fashion.
The harmonic oscillator is a quantum mechanical system that represents one of the most basic potentials. In order to understand the behavior of a particle within this system, the time-independent Schrödinger equation was solved; in other words, its eigenfunctions and eigenvalues were found. The first goal of this study was to construct a family of single parameter potentials and corresponding eigenfunctions with a spectrum similar to that of the harmonic oscillator. This task was achieved by means of supersymmetric quantum mechanics, which utilizes an intertwining operator that relates a known Hamiltonian with another whose potential is to be built. Secondly, a generalization of the technique was used to work with the time-dependent Schrödinger equation to construct new potentials and corresponding solutions.
We study the generalized harmonic oscillator that has both the position-dependent mass and the potential depending on the form of mass function in a more general framework. The explicit expressions of the eigenvalue and eigenfunction for such a system are given, they have the same forms as those for the usual harmonic oscillator with constant mass. The coherent state and its properties for the system with PDM are also discussed. We give the corresponding effective potentials for several mass functions, the systems with such potentials are isospectral to the usual harmonic oscillator.
