Generalized creation and annihilation operators: Physical interpretation and reordering properties

Abstract

Matrix elements for fermion and boson operators describing the creation or annihilation of particles with multiple angular-momentum quantum numbers can be factored into products of matrix elements of generalized operators, one for each quantum number. The generalized operators have nonzero matrix elements between states of arbitrary permutational symmetry. This factorization greatly increases the efficiency of shell-model calculations. We provide a physical interpretation for these generalized operators and introduce a simple operator-reordering procedure.

Reordering into Normal Products, the Commutation Relation and the Particle-Hole Relation in the Many-Body Shell Model Bases

Masao Nomura

Treatment of a general operator in the shell model bases is investigated as a reformulation and a slight generalization of a previous work. First, reordering of an operator into normal products is presented by the use of matrix elements in a few-body configurations instead of the use of the Wick theorem. Second, the commutation relation and the particle-hole relation in the many-body bases are presented each of which is equivalent to the cfp relation arising from the completeness of basic functions. Next, the operator whose matrix element fulfills particle-hole symmetry is constructed from an arbitrary operator. In turn, the operator is expressed as a sum of particle-hole symmetrized operators.

Generalized boson and fermion operators with a maximal total occupation property

Nedialka I. Stoilova, Joris Van Der Jeugt

Abstract We propose a new generalization of the standard (anti-)commutation relations for creation and annihilation operators of bosons and fermions. These relations preserve the usual symmetry properties of bosons and fermions. Only the standard (anti-)commutator relation involving one creation and one annihilation operator is deformed by introducing fractional coefficients, containing a positive integer parameterp. The Fock space is determined by the classical definition. The new relations are chosen in such a way that the total occupation number in the system has the maximum valuep. From the actions of creation and annihilation operators in the Fock space, a group theoretical framework is determined, and from here the correspondence with known particle statistics is established.

Identical Particles and Second Quantization: Occupation Number Representation

Norman J. M. Horing

Abstract Focusing on systems of many identical particles, Chapter 2 introduces appropriate operators to describe their properties in terms of Schwinger’s “measurement symbols.” The latter are then factorized into “creation” and “annihilation” operators, whose fundamental properties and commutation/anticommutation relations are derived in conjunction with the Pauli exclusion principle. This leads to “second quantization” with the Hamiltonian, number, linear and angular momentum operators expressed in terms of the annihilation and creation operators, as well as the occupation number representation. Finally, the concept of coherent states, as eigenstates of the annihilation operator, having minimum uncertainty, is introduced and discussed in detail.

S>Transformation permutation group matrices used in calculation of two- shell element configurations were developed and tabulated for possible symmetry groups with 3 to 6 total particle numbers. General expansion of natural power of linear combination of Bosonic operators in normal order

Deepak Deepak, Arpita Chatterjee

In quantum mechanics, bosonic operators are mathematical objects that are used to represent the creation ($a^\dagger$) and annihilation ($a$) of bosonic particles. The natural power of a linear combination of bosonic operators represents an operator $(a^\dagger x+ay)^n$ with $n$ as the exponent and $x,\,y$ are the variables free from bosonic operators. The normal ordering of these operators is a mathematical technique that arranges the operators so that all the creation operators are to the left of the annihilation operators, reducing the number of terms in the expression. In this paper, we present a general expansion of the natural power of a linear combination of bosonic operators in normal order. We show that the expansion can be expressed in terms of binomial coefficients and the product of the normal-ordered operators using the direct method and than prove it using the fundamental principle of mathematical induction. We also derive a formula for the coefficients of the expansion in terms of the number of bosons and the commutation relation between the creation and annihilation operators. Our results have important applications in the study of many-body systems in quantum mechanics, such as in the calculation of correlation functions and the evaluation of the partition function. The general expansion presented in this paper provides a powerful tool for analyzing and understanding the behavior of bosonic systems, and can be applied to a wide range of physical problems.

Co- and Contra-Variant Tensors of a General Rankin Quantum Matrix Algebrassuq(2) Expressedby Creation-Annihilation Operators. II

Masao Nomura

Quantum matrix algebras s u q (2) are realized in terms of single-state boson operators and their conjugates, ( a + , a ), ( b + , b ), etc., specified as quantum analogs of symplectons. The boson operators obey the linear transformation of S U q (2) such as a ′ + = a + x + a v and a ′ = a + u + a y . Here, x , u , v , y are non-commutative elements which commute with a + and a . Commutation relations for creation and annihilation operators are determined so as to be invariant under the linear transformation. Exchange algebras with the universal R j ′ j ′′ matrix are realized in terms of P ( j ′ , m ′ ; b ), P ( j ′′ , m ′′ ; a ), etc., where P ( j ′ , m ′ ; b ) is the j z ′ = m ′ component of rank- j ′ tensor written as an order-2 j ′ polynomial in b + and b .
