Abstract

We generate ultrabroadband biphotons via the process of spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) in quasi-phase-matched nonlinear gratings that have a linearly chirped wave vector. By using these ultrabroadband biphotons (300-nm bandwidth), we measure the narrowest Hong-Ou-Mandel dip to date, having a full width at half maximum of 7.1 fs. This enables the generation of a high flux of nonoverlapping biphotons with ultrabroad bandwidth, thereby promoting the use of SPDC light in many nonclassical applications.

Submicron axial resolution in an ultrabroadband two-photon interferometer using superconducting single-photon detectors

We generate ultrabroadband biphotons via the process of spontaneous parametric down-conversion in a quasi-phase-matched nonlinear grating that has a linearly chirped poling period. Using these biphotons in conjunction with superconducting single-photon detectors (SSPDs), we measure the narrowest Hong-Ou-Mandel dip to date in a two-photon interferometer, having a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of approximately 5.7 fsec. This FWHM corresponds to a quantum optical coherence tomography (QOCT) axial resolution of 0.85 ?m. Our results indicate that a high flux of nonoverlapping biphotons may be generated, as required in many applications of nonclassical light.

The single-cycle biphotons generated by SPDC in chirped QPM PPKTP crystal

Wang Jinbao, Lin Haibo

In this paper, we have studied the process of monochromatic pump light in linearly chirped Periodically Poled [Formula: see text] (PPKTP) nonlinear crystal to generate single-cycle biphotons under Quasi-Phase-Matching (QPM) conditions through a Spontaneous Parametric Down-Conversion (SPDC). A detailed analysis of the phase mismatching function reveals that in PPKTP crystals, for the proper frequency range, the phase mismatching [Formula: see text] is stable and relatively close to 0 due to the relatively stable refractive index, and therefore has a good phase matching effect. Even when the chirp rate becomes small, it is able to produce single-cycle biphotons due to the near-perfect phase matching. Of course, as the chirp rate increases, the frequency response range becomes wider, the temporal width is narrower, and the number of cycles is smaller.

Towards single-cycle squeezing in chirped quasi-phase-matched optical parametric down-conversion

D. B. Horoshko, Mikhail I. Kolobov

We propose a method for generation of single-cycle squeezed light by parametric down-conversion in a chirped quasi-phase-matched nonlinear crystal. We find an exact quantum solution for this process valid for an arbitrary parametric gain (under an assumption of nondepleted pump), and discover an ultrabroadband squeezing in the down-converted light with a flat squeezing spectrum comprising the full optical octave. We describe a scheme for observation of this kind of squeezing using second-harmonic generation as an ultrafast correlator.

Broadband fiber-based entangled photon-pair source at telecom O-band

Changjia Chen, Calvin Xu, Arash Riazi +4 more

In this Letter, we report a polarization-entangled photon-pair source based on type-II spontaneous parametric downconversion at telecom O-band in periodically poled silica fiber (PPSF). The photon-pair source exhibits more than 130 nm ( ∼ 24 T H z ) emission bandwidth centered at 1306.6 nm. The broad emission spectrum results in a short biphoton correlation time, and we experimentally demonstrate a Hong–Ou–Mandel interference dip with a full width of 26.6 fs at half-maximum. Owing to the low birefringence of the PPSF, the biphotons generated from type-II SPDC are polarization-entangled over the entire emission bandwidth, with a measured fidelity to a maximally entangled state greater than 95.4%. The biphoton source provides the broadest bandwidth entangled biphotons at O-band to our knowledge.
