Quantization of a particle with a force quadratic in the velocity

The quantization of a system subject to a force quadratic in the velocity and position dependence is carried out in the phase-space path-integral framework. The resulting Hamiltonian coincides with that obtained by using the Weyl-ordering canonical prescription.

Quantization of a particle with a force quadratic in the velocity

Catherine Stuckens, Donald H. Kobe

A particle with a nonconservative force quadratic in the velocity is described by an appropriate Lagrangian. The particle can be canonically quantized, but ambiguities concerning the ordering of operators arise. These ambiguities are eliminated if the Feynman path-integral procedure is used to quantize the particle.

Canonical transformations and phase space path integrals

Robert L. Fanelli

A previous discussion of canonical transformations and path integrals is extended to the phase space path integral method. Within this approach a broader class of canonical transformations can be introduced than within the Lagrangian approach, including coordinate transformations and essentially all infinitesimal tranformations.

Path integrals and propagators for quadratic Lagrangians in three dimensions

Kai-Man Poon, Gerardo Muñoz

Functional methods are employed to derive the propagator for a three-dimensional system described by a Lagrangian at most quadratic in the velocity and position variables. Two physically relevant examples are presented to illustrate the concrete application of the general formula.

Path-integral evaluation of the space–time propagator for quadratic Hamiltonian systems

John T. Marshall, John L. Pell

Path-integral methods are used to derive an exact expression for the space–time propagator for systems with quadratic Hamiltonians. For a certain subclass of such systems, the result is reduced to a simplified closed form. The propagators for several illustrative elementary cases are exhibited in detail.
