Formation and optical control of dissipative vortex solitons in hollow-core optical fibres filled with a cold atomic gas

Mikhail Yu. Gubin, A. V. Prokhorov, M. G. Gladush +2 more

We consider the problem of formation of optical vortex solitons in a medium of three-level atoms, taking into account the local field effects. The principal possibility of formation of optical solitons controlled by an optical pump wave under the off-resonance Raman conditions of the lambda-type interaction scheme is predicted in an optically dense medium, i.e., in a hollow-core photonic-crystal optical fibre filled with a gas of cold atoms 87 Rb.

Quantum solitons of the nonlinear Schrodinger equations and their quantum noise

R. Bullough, N. M. Bogoliubov, JUSSI TIMONEN

Summary form only given. Quantum solitons appear in the optical communications literature as classical solitons vested with quantum fluctuations. A generic model is the quantum nonlinear Schrodinger model which may describe soliton transmission in an optical fibre. We show how the natural 'quantum soliton' of the system derives from the matrix element of the quantised field operator under a condition of very large particle number. We also comment on its quantum noise and stability.

Quantum Dynamics and Polarisation Squeezing of Ultrashort Pulses in Optical Fibre

Joel Frederick Corney, P. D. Drummond, J. Heersink +3 more

Comparing stochastic simulations and experimental measurements, we study the quantum dynamics of polarisation squeezing in optical fibres. Squeezing of -6.8 dB is measured, with Raman effects limiting squeezing for higher pulse energies and longer fibres. Depolarising GAWBS phase-noise adversely affects squeezing at low pulse energies. Third-order dispersion is also accounted for in the simulations, and this has an effect on pulses with more than the soliton energy. We theoretically determine the optimal pulse energy and fibre length for the best squeezing.
