Abstract

The motion of a pair of solitons propagating through an absorbing three-level system in the lambda configuration is analysed. In the course of this analytic analysis, the existence condition for solitary wave pairs is derived. This condition allows for two possible velocities of the soliton pair.

Soliton propagation in an absorbing three-level atomic system

Hichem Eleuch, Dominique Elser, R. Bennaceur

We present analytic results of soliton shapes propagating in an absorbing three-level atomic system in the lambda configuration which is excited by a CW field at the Stokes transition. We find analytic relations for the control of the propagation velocity which can be influenced by the pulse width and by the intensity and polarization of the CW field.

In this work we develop a theoretical model to describe the propagation of an optical pulse in a 4-level atomic system. We investigate the existence of dissipative soliton solutions and analyze the stability of these solitary waves, comparing the analytical results with computational simulations based on the effective (1+1)-dimensional model derived from the Maxwell-Bloch equation under the slowly-varying envelope approximation.

Two-color bright solitons in a three-level atomic system in the cascade configuration

We investigate two-component spatial optical solitons in a cascaded three-level atomic system. We derive an existence curve in the parameter space of power and spatial widths that reveals the existence of a plethora of coupled solitons. These solitons can exist with two different frequencies and also with two different widths. Our analytical results have been verified by direct numerical simulations. Stability analysis confirms that these solitons are stable.

SLOWING LIGHT CONTROL FOR A SOLITON-PAIR

We investigate the propagation of a soliton-pair in 3-level atomic system out of resonance. We present an explicit analytical expression of the soliton-pair shape. We show that the speed of the soliton-pair can be controlled. Furthermore, we derive a condition for completely stopping the light.

Matched Optical Solitary Waves for Three- and Five-Level Systems

F. T. Hioe, R. Grobe

Exact analytic results are presented that give a general solution for a pair of solitary waves which can propagate through a three- and a five-level system with their shapes invariant. These solitary waves vary widely in shape and form: from ones for which the pulses have similar shape to ones which have very different but "complementary" shapes. A general type of solitary-wave pair which is insensitive to small perturbations is identified.
