Abstract

A map of a quantum Heisenberg spin chain into an extended Bose-Hubbard-like Hamiltonian is set up. Within this framework, the spectrum of the corresponding Bose-Hubbard chain, on a periodic one-dimensional lattice containing two, four, and six bosons shows interesting detailed band structures. These fine structures are studied using numerical diagonalization, and nondegenerate and degenerate perturbation theory. We also focus our attention on the effect of the anisotropy and Heisenberg exchange energy on the detailed band structures. The signature of the quantum breather is also set up by the square of the amplitudes of the corresponding eigenvectors in real space.

Quantum q -breathers in a finite Bose-Hubbard chain: The case of two interacting bosons

Jean Pierre Nguenang, Ricardo A. Pinto, Sergej Flach A

We study the spectrum and eigenstates of the quantum discrete Bose-Hubbard Hamiltonian in a finite one-dimensional lattice containing two bosons. The interaction between the bosons leads to an algebraic localization of the modified extended states in the normal-mode space of the noninteracting system. Weight functions of the eigenstates in the space of normal modes are computed by using numerical diagonalization and perturbation theory. We find that staggered states do not compactify in the dilute limit for large chains.

Quantum signature of breathers in 1D ultracold bosons in optical lattices involving next-nearest neighbor interactions

Zacharie Isidore Djoufack, A. Kenfack-Jiotsa, Jean Pierre Nguenang

The dynamics and the energy spectrum of an ultracold gas of bosonic atoms in an optical lattice can be described by a Bose–Hubbard model for which the system parameters can be controlled by laser light. We study by means of the perturbation theory in addition to the numerical diagonalization, the energy spectrum and the related features of the band structures of the ultracold bosons in optical lattices containing a few number of quanta interacting with next-nearest neighbor interactions (NNNI) modeled by the Bose–Hubbard Hamiltonian. The energy spectra of such system display the bound states signature, which are analyzed in the first Brillouin zone for different wave numbers. The finding, i.e., quantum breathers, shows that their probabilities’ weight depends on the wave vector. The influence of NNNI on both the probabilities’ amplitude and the correlation function is also realized in case of a system with a small number of sites, respectively.

XXZ spin- 12 representation of a finite- U Bose-Hubbard chain at half-integer filling

Domenico Giuliano, Davide Rossini, Pasquale Sodano +1 more

Using a similarity Hamiltonian renormalization procedure, we determine an effective spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ representation of the Bose-Hubbard model at half-integer filling and at a finite onsite interaction energy $U$. By means of bosonization, we are able to recast the effective Hamiltonian as that of a spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ XXZ magnetic chain with pertinently renormalized coupling and anisotropy parameters. We use this mapping to provide analytical estimates of the correlation functions of the Bose-Hubbard model. We then compare such results with those based on density matrix renormalization group numerical simulations of the Bose-Hubbard model for various values of $U$ and for a number $L$ of lattice sites as low as $L\ensuremath{\sim}30$. We find an excellent agreement up to $10%$ between the output of analytical and numerical computations, even for relatively small values of $U$. Our analysis implies that, also at finite $U$, the one-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model with suitably chosen parameters may be seen as a quantum simulator of the XXZ chain.

The Infinite XXZ Quantum Spin Chain Revisited: Structure of Low Lying Spectral Bands and Gaps

Christoph Fischbacher, Günter Stolz

We study the structure of the spectrum of the infinite XXZ quantum spin chain, an anisotropic version of the Heisenberg model. The XXZ chain Hamiltonian preserves the number of down spins (or particle number), allowing to represent it as a direct sum of N-particle interacting discrete Schrödinger-type operators restricted to the fermionic subspace. In the Ising phase of the model we use this representation to give a detailed determination of the band and gap structure of the spectrum at low energy. In particular, we show that at sufficiently strong anisotropy the so-called droplet bands are separated from higher spectral bands uniformly in the particle number. Our presentation of all necessary background is self-contained and can serve as an introduction to the mathematical theory of the Heisenberg and XXZ quantum spin chains.

Quantum breathers in XXZ ferromagnetic chains with on-site easy-plane anisotropy

Bing Tang, Dejun Li

The existence and properties of quantum breathers in a one-dimensional XXZ ferromagnetic Heisenberg spin chain with single-ion easy-plane anisotropy are investigated analytically in the Hartree approximation. We show that the system can support the appearance of quantum breathers, and discuss their existence conditions and properties. In addition, our results show that, for quantum breathers in this system, both the corresponding energy and magnetic moment are quantized.
