Perturbation expansion and initial-state correlations in non-equilibrium thermo-field dynamics

Abstract

A perturbation scheme in non-equilibrium thermo-field dynamics is developed by taking into account the initial-state correlations. Two methods are proposed: in the first method the time dependence of amplitudes and their initial values are evaluated by two independent perturbation schemes while in the second method the two perturbation schemes are combined by use of a fictitious past.

Self-Consistent Perturbation Method in Thermo Field Dynamics: General Scheme

H. Matsumoto

A perturbation method in non-equilibrium thermo field dynamics is presented. Changes of energy levels and particle-distributions with time are taken into account self-consistently in a perturbative scheme. The method provides us with a formulation to calculate time-dependent particle-distributions in a closed system as well as in an open system.

Time-Dependent Renormalization in Non-Equilibrium Thermo Field Dynamics

Hiroomi Umezawa, Toshihico Arimitsu

Making use of the thermo field dynamics, we present a preliminary analysis of the non-equilibrium process which transforms an initial non-ordered state to a final ordered state. The time-behavior of the order parameter and of the Goldstone mode is crudely estimated. The result indicates that a systematic formalism of time-dependent renormalization is demanded.

Non-Equilibrium Thermo Field Dynamics

Toshihico Arimitsu, Hiroomi Umezawa

A fundamental framework for the construction of a quantum field theory for open systems, which will be called non-equilibrium thermo field dynamics (NETFD), is built upon two concepts. One is the thermal state in the thermal-Liouville space, by which the quasi-particle superoperator is introduced generally from the thermal state condition. The other is the coarse graining which is realized by projecting out some partial space from the complete thermal-Liouville space, and by which the dissipation is introduced. Most properties of the usual quantum field theory (e.g., the operator formalism, the time-ordered formulation of the Green’s functions, the Feynman diagram method in real time, etc.) are preserved in NETFD. The entropy for the nonequilibrium state can be also introduced in NETFD.

Non-Equilibrium Thermo-Field Dynamics for a Fourth-Order Hamiltonian

Mizuhiko Saeki

The non-equilibrium thermo-field dynamics proposed by Arimitsu and Umezawa are generalized to the case of a fourth-order unperturbed Hamiltonian which includes not only a second-order (quadratic) part but also a fourth-order part. Fujita's analysis for effects of the initial particle correlation of a quantum gas is proved generally in terms of TFD. The forms of the quasi-particle operators for a semi-free boson field are derived. It is shown that the energies and life-times of the quasi-particles depend on the adiabatic boson-reservoir interaction which leads to the fourth-order part of the unperturbed Hamiltonian. The form of the two-point Green's function for the semi-free boson field is evaluated. A form of the admittance for a boson system interacting with its heat reservoir, which includes effects of the initial correlation and memory, is derived using the TCLE method formulated in terms of the generalized non-equilibrium thermo-field dynamics. A calculation method of the higher-order parts of the admittance in powers of the boson-boson interaction is given. Furthermore, a calculation method of the perturbation expansions of the two-point Green's function for the boson system is given.

One-Loop Calculation in Time-Dependent Non-Equilibrium Thermo Field Dynamics

Hiroomi Umezawa, Y. Yamanaka

This paper is a review on the structure of thermo field dynamics (TFD) in which the basic concepts such as the thermal doublets, the quasi-particles and the self-consistent renormalization are presented in detail. A strong emphasis is put on the computational scheme. A detailed structure of this scheme is illustrated by the one-loop calculation in a non-equilibrium time-dependent process. A detailed account of the one-loop calculation has never been reported anywhere. The role of the self-consistent renormalization is explained. The equilibrium TFD is obtained as the long-time limit of non-equilibrium TFD.

Non-equilibrium quantum dynamics with collisional correlations

E. Suraud, P.‐G. Reinhard

We present a fully quantum mechanical treatment of collisional correlations beyond mean-field dynamics. Correlations are handled by an ensemble of mean-field states emerging from a stochastic propagation scheme. This is done by first propagating two-body correlations in time-dependent perturbation theory for a certain time span, reducing the coherently correlated state into an incoherent sum of two-particle-two-hole states, and then sampling this state into an ensemble of mean-field states according to the jump probability obtained from perturbation theory. The scheme is applied to a simple 1D test case calibrated to typical scales of molecules and clusters. Even for the small system size and low dimension, the scheme produces robust results. Occupation numbers and entropy show steady relaxation towards thermal equilibrium.
