We have investigated the intensity squeezing of superposition of two photon-added coherent states and proposed a new method for preparation of photon-added coherent states and their superposition states. This method is based on interaction of the trapped ion with the traveling wave light fields with different frequencies.
Recently, using conditioning approaches on the high-harmonic generation process induced by intense laser-atom interactions, we have developed a new method for the generation of optical Schrödinger cat states (Lewenstein et al. in Nat Phys, 17 1104–1108, 2021. https://doi/10.1038/s41567-021-01317-w). These quantum optical states have been proven to be very manageable as, by modifying the conditions under which harmonics are generated, one can interplay between kitten and genuine cat states. Here, we demonstrate that this method can also be used for the development of new schemes towards the creation of optical Schrödinger cat states, consisting of the superposition of three distinct coherent states. Apart from the interest these kind of states have on their own, we additionally propose a scheme for using them towards the generation of large cat states involving the sum of two different coherent states. The quantum properties of the obtained superpositions aim to significantly increase the applicability of optical Schrödinger cat states for quantum technology and quantum information processing.
Optical "Schrödinger cat" states, the non-classical superposition of two quasi-classical coherent states, serve as a basis for gedanken experiments testing quantum physics on mesoscopic scales and are increasingly recognized as a resource for quantum information processing. Here, we report the first experimental realization of optical "Schrödinger cats" by adding a photon to a squeezed vacuum state, so far only photon-subtraction protocols have been realized. Photon-addition gives us the advantage of using heralded signal photons as experimental triggers, and we can generate "Schrödinger cats" at rates exceeding 8.5×104 counts per second; at least one order of magnitude higher than all previously reported realizations. Wigner distributions with pronounced negative parts are demonstrated at down to -8.89 dB squeezing, even when the initial squeezed vacuum input state has low purity. Benchmarking against such a degraded squeezed input state we report a maximum fidelity of more than 80% with a maximum cat amplitude of ∣α∣≈1.66. Our experiment uses photon-addition from pairs, one of those photons is used for monitoring, giving us enhanced control; moreover the pair production rates are high and should allow for repeated application of photon-addition via repeat-stages.
Entanglment properties of photon-added two-mode entangled coherent states are analyzed and analytical expression of the concurrence entanglement is obtained. The results show that the concurrence of the photon-added entangled coherent states is very sensitive to the superposition phase.Schemes for preparation of photon-added coherent states and photon-added two-mode entangled coherent states are also proposed. The preparation procession of the photon-added coherent states is that the photon-added coherent states are firstly tansformed into a superposition state of coherent state and vacuum state(the superposition coefficient is associated with amplitude of the coherent state),then by applying the interaction of atom inside high-Q cavity with a classical light, finally added coherent states of cavity field is prepared.Preparation of photon-added two-mode entangled coherent states of cavity fields is based on interaction of the flying atom with two cavity fields.
