Abstract

In this paper, we investigate secrecy communications in two-hop wireless relaying networks which consist of one source, one amplify-and-forward (AF) relay, one legitimate destination, and one eavesdropper. To prevent the eavesdropper from intercepting the source message, we make the destination send the intended noise to the AF relay during the first phase. This is referred to as cooperative jamming. According to the channel information at the destination, we address two types of jamming power allocation; (i) rate-optimal power allocation and (ii) outage-optimal power allocation. More specifically, without the instantaneous channel knowledge for the eavesdropper side, the outage probability of the secrecy rate is minimized with respect to the intended noise power level. We show that the outage-optimal allocation gives almost the same outage probability as the rateoptimal one. In addition, the jamming power consumption can be significantly reduced compared to the fixed and rate-optimal power allocation methods.

On the Jamming Power Allocation for Secure Amplify-and-Forward Relaying via Cooperative Jamming

Ki‐Hong Park, Tian Wang, Mohamed‐Slim Alouini

In this paper, we investigate secure communications in two-hop wireless relaying networks with one eavesdropper. To prevent the eavesdropper from intercepting the source message, the destination sends an intended jamming noise to the relay, which is referred to as cooperative jamming. This jamming noise helps protecting the source message from being captured reliably at the eavesdropper, while the destination cancels its self-intended noise. According to the channel information available at the destination, we derive three jamming power allocation strategies to minimize the outage probability of the secrecy rate. In addition, we derive analytic results quantifying the jamming power consumption of the proposed allocation methods.

Power Allocation for Cooperative Jamming in Amplify-and-Forward Relaying Network with Eavesdropper

Yongyun Choi, Jae Hong Lee

In this paper, we propose an optimal source power allocation scheme for a two-hop amplify-and-forward relaying network with cooperative jamming where a source and destination transmit jamming signals. For the full CSI of all link and the CSI for desired link, the source power is optimally splitted to minimize the secrecy outage probability. Simulation results show that the proposed power allocation scheme improves the secrecy rate and reliability.

Secrecy Performance of Untrustworthy AF Relay Networks using Cooperative Jamming and SWIPT

In this paper, the secrecy outage performance of a three-node amplify-and-forward relay network with an untrustworthy relay is investigated. To enable a secure transmission, we consider a destination-based jamming technique to prevent the relay from successfully decoding the secret messages between the source and the destination. In addition, the relay is assumed to be an energy-constrained device, thus being first energized by the source in order to be able to retransmit the information to the destination. In doing so, a time switching-based simultaneous wireless information and power transfer scheme is used. A closed-form asymptotic expression for the secrecy outage probability is derived in order to obtain a tight approximation at medium-to-high signal-to-noise ratio. The accuracy of the performed analysis is corroborated by Monte Carlo simulations through different illustrative cases. Numerical results show the impact of key system parameters on the secrecy performance, such as the time allocation factor between the energy harvesting and information transmission phases, the power allocation factor between source and destination for cooperative jamming, and the relay position, so as to provide insights on the design criteria for energy efficient and secure networks.

Secrecy rate optimization for two-hop relay system with energy harvesting based on cooperative jamming

Lei Wei-ji

A two-hop relay-eavesdropper channel model with one transmitter, one relay, one receiver and one eavesdropper is considered, where the nodes harvest energy and the save-then-transmit protocol is employed. That is,the nodes harvest energy first, which is then used to transmit the data. The relay is operated as an amplify-and-forward relay, and the destination sends an intended jamming noise to protect information, which is referred as cooperative jamming.First, the condition that ensures the promotion of secrecy capacity is derived.Second,an optimization algorithm to maximize secrecy rate Rsis given, which is based on the optimization of the energy saving time ratioρand the jamming power allocation scaling factorα.Simulation results show that the algorithm has a high convergence speed, and can effectively improve secrecy rate.

Relay power allocation for security enhancement in three-phase AF two-way relaying systems

Zonghao Ma, Ning Wang, Yanhui Lu +1 more

In this work, information security of a cooperative wireless communication system over three-phase amplify-and-forward (AF) two-way relaying channels is investigated. A relay power allocation scheme is proposed to improve secrecy capacity of the system. We first derive the secrecy rate expression for the basic scenario which consists of one source, one destination, one single relay, and an eavesdropper. A relay power allocation scheme which maximizes the overall secrecy rate of the single-relay system is studied accordingly. Then the power allocation coefficients are calculated under the assumption of perfect channel state information (CSI). This design framework is then extended to a cooperative wireless system having multiple relays. In the numerical example, secrecy rate performance of the proposed scheme is compared with the classic three-phase two-way AF scheme and it is concluded that conducting power allocation at the relay can achieve the goal of improving the secrecy capacity. It is also observed that the best performing scenario of the relay power allocation scheme is when the relay locates right in the middle of the two legitimate communicants.

Artificial Noise Aided Secrecy Enhancement in Amplify-and-Forward Relay Networks

P M Shemi, M G Jibukumar, Munsif Ali

Cooperative relaying and cooperative jamming have been used to improve the secrecy of wireless networks. In this paper, Artificial Noise (AN) based secrecy enhancement of a dual-hop wireless network consisting of ‘n’ amplify-and-forward (AF) relays in the presence of a passive eavesdropper (E) is studied. A practical setting where direct links exist between source-destination (S-D) and source-eavesdropper (S-E) is considered. The source allocates some of its available power to transmit AN in order to confuse the eavesdropper and thereby degrades its channel. The optimum power allocation factor (a) and maximum secrecy rate are estimated analytically and by simulation. The performance is evaluated based on secrecy rate (Rs) and bit error rate (BER); for the case of randomly distributed relays and for any eavesdropper location. Numerical results show the improvement of the proposed cooperative scheme over other schemes.
