ON THE CHARACTERISTICS OF FLUORESCENCE SPECTRUM OF A TWO-LEVEL ATOM INTERACTING WITH AN EVEN COHERENT STATE

Abstract

The fluorescence spectrum of a two-level atom interacting with a quantized cavity field in an even coherent state, an eigenstate of two-photon annihilation operator, is investigated and compared with the spectral features obtained in an ordinary coherent state. Differences in the quality of these spectra are attributed to the interference effect present in the even coherent state.

TIME CHARACTERISTICS OF PHASE FLUCTUATION AND COHERENCE OF A COHERENT FIELD INTERACTING WITH AN ATOM

Fan A, Z Wang, Nian X. Sun

Based on the phase formalism of Pegg-Barnett and the quantum theory of opti. cal coherence of Glauber, the time characteristics of quantum phase fluctuation, quantum coherence and photon-number distribution of a coherent field interacting with a two-level atom in a ideal cavity are studied using dressed-atom states. The calculated results show that, in the case of resonant interaction of the atom and field, the atom acts as non-linear filter; quantum phase property and coherence of the field are also complementary in the way of description on optical incoherence.

Interaction of a two-level atom with a squeezed vacuum: Photon statistics and spectra

Perry R. Rice, Christopher A. Baird

We consider the interaction of a two-level atom with a squeezed vacuum, both in free space and in a cavity of moderate Q. In the latter case, only vacuum modes coupled to the cavity are squeezed. In both cases we calculate the following quantities for the fluorescent light fields: the second-order intensity correlation function ${\mathit{g}}^{(2)}$(\ensuremath{\tau}), the spectrum of squeezing, the coherent spectrum, and the spectrum obtained in a pump-probe absorption measurement. Nonclassical behavior is discussed and comparison to an ordinary vacuum and thermal fields is made. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.

TWO-LEVEL ATOM UNDERGOING TWO PHOTON TRANSITION IN A QUANTIZED FIELD: THE FLUORESCENT SPECTRUM

Amitabh Joshi, S. V. Lawande

The fluorescence spectrum produced by a two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model (JCM) has been analyzed using the infinity of transitions among the dressed states of its Hamiltonian. A large number of resonances in the spectra are observed which are sensitive to the mean photon numbers of the quantized coherent field. Also, the qualitative nature of these spectra are in contrast to that of the corresponding spectra of standard JCM.

QUANTUM PROPERTIES OF FLUORESCENCE LIGHT EMITTED BY TWO LEVEL ATOMS INTERACTING VACUUM DRIVEN BY COHERENT LIGHT

GIRMA SHANBALI

Abstract This thesis presents an investigation into the quantum characteristics of fluorescence emitted by a two-level atom placed in the electromagnetic vacuum and driven by a classical coherent field. The theoretical analysis employs the Jaynes–Cummings model together with the master-equation formalism commonly used to describe open quantum systems. Within this framework, the work examines key nonclassical fea tures such as photon antibunching, sub-Poissonian statistics, and quantum regression. Particular emphasis is given to resonance fluorescence and the influence of weak and strong driving fields on the coherence properties of the emitted radiation. The master equation is solved in the long-time limit to obtain the evolution of relevant atomic expectation values, which are subsequently used to study population dynamics, mean photon behavior, and spectral features of the fluorescence signal. The study also highlights the role of vacuum fluctuations in spontaneous emission and their impact on the quantum behavior of the atom, ultimately providing insights into the generation of coherent and nonclassical light from driven atomic systems and their relevance to quantum communication and quantum information technologies. Cavity field spectra of the nondegenerate two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model

M. M. Ashraf

The cavity field spectra for various initial fields of a nondegenerate two-photon Jaynes-Cummings Model are investigated. It is shown that the two-peak structure due to the resonant interaction between a single two-level atom and two different mode fields inside a high-Q cavity persists for coherent and thermal cases. Moreover, coherent sidebands appear for a coherent field whose widths are governed by the field statistics. However, squeezed vacuum fields exhibit rather different features showing the classical resonance fluorescence spectra at large n\ifmmode\bar\else\textasciimacron\fi{} (even in two-photon transitions).
