Joint distributions of multimode stimulated parametric down-conversion and controllable nonclassical effects

Abstract

Based on recent results (Peřina and Křepelka 2006 Opt. Commun. 265 632) we derive and illustrate multimode joint photon-number distributions, integrated-intensity distributions, sum and difference distributions and conditional distributions for stimulated parametric down-conversion in the approximation of large degrees of freedom. The stimulated process can increase or decrease nonclassical effects from spontaneous processes and it can be used to control them.

Multiphoton multimode polarization entanglement in parametric down-conversion

A. Gatti, Roberta Zambrini, Maxi San Miguel +1 more

We study the quantum properties of the polarization of the light produced in type-II spontaneous parametric down-conversion in the framework of a multimode model valid in any gain regime. We show that the microscopic polarization entanglement of photon pairs survives in the high gain regime (multiphoton regime), in the form of nonclassical correlation of all the Stokes operators describing polarization degrees of freedom.

Multi-photon correlations for nonclassical light measured in the pulsed regime

We demonstrate a technique of measuring Glauberpsilas normalized correlation functions for nonclassical light generated in the pulsed regime. In particular, intensity correlation functions are studied for the transition between spontaneous and stimulated parametric down-conversion.

Theory of high gain cavity-enhanced spontaneous parametric down-conversion

Joanna A. Zielińska, Morgan W. Mitchell

We compute the output of multimode cavity-enhanced spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) for subthreshold, but otherwise arbitrary, gain. We find analytic Bogoliubov transformations that allow us to calculate arbitrary field correlation functions, including the second-order intensity correlation function ${G}^{(2)}(T)$. The results show evidence of increased coherence due to stimulated SPDC. We extend an earlier model [Lu and Ou, Phys. Rev. A 62, 033804 (2000)] to arbitrary gain and finesse, and show the extension gives accurate results in most scenarios. The results will allow simple, analytic description of cavity-based nonclassical light sources for quantum networking, quantum-enhanced sensing of atoms, and generation of highly nonclassical field states.
