Linear amplification, squeezed states and phase properties of light

John Alfio Vaccaro

In this thesis we examine linear amplification of squeezed light, the phase properties of squeezed light and the effect on the phase of light from linear amplification. Previous studies of linear amplifiers of light have shown that (i) when amplifying squeezed light the power gain must be less than 2 to preserve some squeezing in the output light; and (ii) a squeezed output cannot be generated from a non-squeezed input. However, these studies were restricted to a class of linear amplifier that can now be identified as not being squeezed. In this thesis we show how to breach the gain limit with a squeezed linear amplifier, and how to generate squeezed light using a squeezed linear attenuator.

Properties of phase operators in single-mode squeezed state of light

Yao D

In this paper the properties of phase operators in single-mode squeezed state of light are discussed. Mean values and fluctuations of the usual phase operators are calculated and analyzed. Detailed discussions are made for the special squeezed vacuum state. Finally, the asymptotic properties of the results are derived in the classica| limit.

Propagation of Quantum Squeezed Light through a Non-Hermitian Bilayer: Effective Medium Theory

Elnaz Pilehvar, Ehsan Amooghorban, Mohammad Kazem Moravvej‐Farshi

In this paper, we investigate the dispersion and medium effects of non-Hermitian bilayer structures consisting of gain and loss layers on the squeezing property of an obliquely incident squeezed light for s- and p-polarized light, in particular at a discrete set of frequencies for which these structures hold PT-symmetric. For this purpose, we calculate the quadrature squeezing of the output state using the QOEMT. The results show although the squeezing property of the output light is retained for the incident frequency farther from the emission frequency of the gain layer, the output light is not squeezed in the PT-symmetric phase.
